Godzilla: Director Gareth Edwards Offers a Nugget of Information

While being interviewed by England's London Evening Standard about Monster, director Gareth Edwards, who's obviously learned the Hollywood blockbuster secrecy game, managed to keep his comments about the in-development Godzilla to the barest minimum.

"I am attached and we are just starting the process," Edwards offers on the subject of Godzilla, to which the piece raises the question of whether or not the Big G will do battle against Mothra or perhaps another giant monster. "Everyone involved knows what the film has to be. What's important to me is that, as well as spectacle, you have to give a shit about what's happening and why."

To learn much more about Edwards, please follow the link and check out the full interview.

As long as it's better than Godzilla from 2000. That was a giant kick to the groin...

@threebigtacos....you mean the Matthew Broderick abomination version...because that was the 90s....I actually enjoyed Godzilla 2000, it was the first film I saw on my own in movie theaters. It introduced a monster that never used again but it was Fun....thats what the later films were all about...the pure fun of seeing Godzilla. To me Final Wars was a great Swan Song for the characters and was a huge blast to watch....Further proving Godzilla is THE MAN...well GIANT RADIOACTIVE FIRE BREATHING DINOSAUR.....thing....you know what I mean

I liked the American Version BETTER!
Which is unusual since we always turn popular Anime and Foreign Classics into CRAP that I HATE.

But Godzilla is one of the few that I enjoyed Better as the american remake. I didn't even bother with Godzilla 2000.

@nuba...... O.o......you serious....you liked the Movie that had the phrase "Thats a lot of Fish" and the stadium ending is a total rip-off of Jurassic Park.....that wasn't Godzilla...it was a joke that got owned in Final Wars.

@Comiccritic: yea I meant the Matthew Broderick version lol My bad

The American version would of been just OK if it had been called anything but Godzilla. Something like Billy Th Big Iguana. But again just OK. Emmerich is piss poor director, a one trick pony.

I'm hoping this movie doesn't have the tone of Monsters, where you don't see anything to the end. It was cool for clover field, but this is Godzilla, he wasn't in the original version that much either but her was in it for more than 5 minutes.

I vote for Mothra or Anguris in 1, Mecha-Godzilla in 2, and King Ghidorah in 3 for obvious reasons. Think of the posters, I hope its good so it spawns sequels and we dont wait another 13 years for a big budget Big G.

Also the Sony Emmerich version of Godzilla wasn't Godzilla.

That would be like making a Batman movie where he has rubber nipples and the villans all dance around like idiots saying 1 liners.
Or a spiderman movie where hes emo and dances for 40 minutes of the movie.
or a Superman movie where hes thin and stalkes his baby's mama and lifts a mountain of the 1 thing that can kill him into space

OH WAIT...

Me and my son watched the original Godzilla the other day. It was awesome to see the little guy get all pumped up and rowdy as the King of Monsters did his thing. He actually cried when they killed him at the end. Can't wait for the movie, or the comic in march. We loves us some city stomp'n monsters.

But otherwise, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

The 1998 version made 376 MILLION dollars!

SOMEBODY agrees with me!

LOL!

The Old Classics were good in the 60s (whenever they came out) but this Remake, I just liked it better.
American remakes usually Suck but this one didn't IMO.

3 things to remember about Godzilla:

1. He's giant. (in the 1998 film, he was tiny compared to the real godzilla)

2. He breathes fire. (not 'hot air' or whatever that was in the american version)

3. He's indestructible. (the military kills the american zilla)

needless to say, that was NOT godzilla. hopefully this time around they get it right.

@bgharcourt: There are strong indications your son is gonna grow up to be awesome.

The american version of Godzilla would of been better if it wasn't Godzilla. As Godzilla it terrible, as any other monster, it was ok.

@nuba.....Box office results don't make something good all the time. Scott Pilgrim was consider to be a great film and it failed at the Box Office. Godzilla started in 1954 and has continued to make films, regardless of their quality of acting, all the giant monster scenes are the best there things put on film. The first film will blow your mind, it was a film about the horrors of nuclear war. There was a scene that showcased Godzilla's destructive power and it looked like the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since then he has become an Icon that has survived the test of time, he has be a villain and Hero, regardless of his position, he is pure awesomeness

@Bandrews1.....I heard very mixed reviews about Monster, MovieBob HATED it.....so I will see it whenever it gets released and see if it is

King Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla maybe?

No Mothra! It looks so... Well!

I hope they make total new monster for this movie!
Sea Monsters are great!:)

StuckInPanels
StuckInPanels - 2/2/2011, 5:47 AM
@Alex.....hmmmm those are all good choices....however, rule out Mechagodzilla since if this a reboot, I'm sure the human race was unexpected to see a giant creature such as that. Ghidorah.....save for a sequel, he is Godzilla's greatest foe EVER!!!! I do agree, make a secondary monster for him to fight, a sea creature seems like the best route

CC87@ Thanks. Yeah Mecha was my favorite too for the first one. But like i said it would be cool to see him fighting with something very scary and "real" monster. Thats why i put sea monsters in there. They are pretty mysterious and scary. I think it would work better to just create a total new creature for this movie.

As long as this film is nothing like the cinematic partial-birth abortion that was the 1998 film (the one with Matthew Broderick), I'm ready to at least give it a chance, and more likely, will be eagerly awaiting it. Part of what killed the '98 film was that it was a typical summer blockbuster. It reminds me a lot of this old Sprite ad:

This is what happened to that Godzilla film, I'm betting.
Killzonev2: King Ghidorah is my favorite of the monsters, and I would LOVE to see them bring him back!

I am so hyped for this. For the villain, they should use Gigan.

Godzilla is my favorite franchise, I hope this film is great. Godzilla 2000 was great and Final Wars is one of the most awesome movies ever.
