Great New DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Stills

Several new images from Matt Reeves' upcoming follow up to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes have popped up on line, featuring new looks at Caesar (Any Serkis) and his simian pals, as well as some of the human characters played by Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke.

"Caesar not only has a wife, but also an infant son and a teenage son," says Andy Serkis. "This film centers around the notion of family — the survival of the family and what lengths you would go to to protect them when life is extremely hard and tough." There's much more over at USA Today, sop be sure to click the link at the bottom of the page.

Andy Serkis (who portrays Caesar) says there was an "ensemble cast" of other actors portraying primates in the film, all using motion-capture performances in outside locations such as New Orleans and the woods of Vancouver. In this story the apes have a major advantage: They don't need the creature comforts the humans require.

It turns out there are humans left in the world. The apes are dealing with their anti-human issues while the humans are in need of electrical power on the apes' land. "In this story we are dealing with the razor's edge of peace," says director Matt Reeves. "Caesar struggles with the question of peace and how do you act as a father and a leader."

Caesar (Andy Serkis) is not fond of guns in 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.' He's trying to be a leader. "Caesar's ethos is that apes do not like guns," says Serkis. "He's trying to find a peaceful accord with the humans who show up. He's an empathetic character."

The highly intelligent ape Caesar (Andy Serkis) is the leader of the ape nation in 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.' Through the first part of the movie (out July 11), it seems clear that humans have been wiped out by a deadly virus.

Gary Oldman in 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.' Things are not looking good for the humans, who are lacking electricity. The apes have the capability of hydro power on their land in Muir Woods. "The big question of the story is can they coexist?" says director Matt Reeves.

Koba (Toby Kebbell) has a strong hatred for humans after his time in captivity, but he respects Caesar's leadership.

Caesar (Andy Serkis) and Koba (Toby Kebbell) have had their differences. But Caesar has proven to be the alpha male. "All of the apes follow Caesar with tremendous allegiance and respect," says Reeves. "He is their king and sort of their father."

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), from a screenplay written by Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The cast includes: Andy Serkis (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30). The film hits theaters July 11, 2014

The problem with these movies is that none of the human characters are actually likeable - so you just want to see them get slaughtered. Sadly we never see that as they've skipped the ape/human war that the previous film ended on and gone straight into the set-up of ape's hunting humans.

So not really interested in seeing this one - as it feels pretty much like they'll just portray Caeser as a 'father trying to protect his young' and kill him off allowing for his teenage son to be the villain for the next film. Feels too planned out for me... =/

I love when a new director takes over an existing successful franchise and manages to make it better (Russo Bros, Francis Lawrence).. From the looks of it Matt Reeves might out do Rupert Wyatt..
