According to a report from Joystiq, an unnamed source told the website a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, first released on the original Xbox in 2000, is being prepped for a Holiday 2011 release for Xbox 360.

The report states the game will include new art assets and updated controller configurations, but the audio will likely remain the same. It will also support 1080p resolution, 3D televisions, and online co-op.

Interestingly enough, the remake isn't being handled by 343 Industries, Microsoft's internal Halo development team. According to the report, Saber Interactive, the team behind TimeShift and the upcoming sci-fi shooter Inversion from Namco, has taken the reigns. 343 is keeping an eye on the project, however.

This rumored remake has a release date: November 15, 2011 - ten years after the original.
