Idris Elba Suits Up As The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain On The New York Set Of THE DARK TOWER

Idris Elba has been spotted on the set of The Dark Tower in full costume as The Gunslinger, looking like he just stepped out of the pages of Stephen King's novel! What's Roland doing in New York though?

The Dark Tower is clearly going to take some liberties with the source material, something which is evident from the fact that both Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) and The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) have been spotted in New York City this week. To faithfully adapt the novels would be damn near impossible in fairness - it's easy to see why the plan at one point was for what sounded like half a dozen movies and TV shows filling in the gaps - but the characters have been perfectly cast.

McConaughey looks like the spitting image of the man sometimes known as
Randall Flagg and Walter o'Dim, while a new batch of set photos now show Elba looking like a true Gunslinger (may it do ya' fine). These two will be joined by Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Kathryn Winnick, and Abby Lee (among others), though we've yet to see them on set. There's also still no sign of key characters like Eddie and Susannah being cast, but with any luck we'll hopefully learn more about the movie soon enough.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, The Dark Tower is currently set to be released on February 17th, next year.

The images are copyrighted, so head on over to Just Jared to check them out!

Looking forward to this, as a lot of thing based on Stephen Kings fantastic books are generally good, although I haven't read the Dark Tower books.

Last one I read of his was the fantastic 11/22/63

@SimplyAz - 11/22/63 was great. One of King's most emotionally satisfying stories.

@NoAssemblyReqd -

One that I could not put down, another one that I read straight after which also had a guy travel to the past on a mission to stop WW1 was Time and Time Again by Ben Elton, which I enjoyed just as much

@ComicsBornAndBred -

Along with 11/22/63 I always recommend Time and Time Again to everybody. It had similar themes to 11/22/63 with the Hero trying to avert a tragedy, this time WW1.
@Obi2 I'll need to check it out one day.

@SimplyAz - Loved the show adaptation but haven't read the books. Stephen King is either a hit or miss with me.

@PrincessLeather -

I recommend it but if you watched the show it's probably not worth reading.
