GODZILLA VS. KONG Moves Up Two Months To March 2020 While SPACE JAM 2 Set For Summer 2021
With Fast & Furious 9 setting its sights on Memorial Day 2020, Warner Bros. is moving its MonsterVerse magnum opus, Godzilla vs. Kong, up a full two months. Meanwhile, they've also dated Space Jam 2
Following Universal's decision last week to push back Vin Diesel's Fast & Furious 9 to May 22, 2020; Warner Bros. has decided to vacate the Memorial Day weekend and actually move up their MonsterVerse magnum opus, Godzilla vs. Kong, a full two months to March 13, 2020.
The Adam Wingard-directed feature, which is currently in the midst of filming, will now square off against Channing Tatum's Gambit - although it's not a stretch to assume the perpetually in-development X-Men spinoff won't make that date following the impending Disney/Fox merger, meaning Godzilla vs. Kong will likely be the only big release of the weekend.
The studio has also finally dated their long-rumored Space Jam sequel for July 16, 2021. No word yet on the supporting cast, but six-time NBA Finals runner-up and current Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James will be suiting up in the lead role alongside Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, and the rest of the storied Tune Squad.
The original live-action/animated hybrid classic starred the greatest player of all-time and six-time World Champion, Michael Jordan, who led his Tune Squad to an epic last-second victory over the Monstars - a game that proved monumental as it ultimately convinced him to return to the Chicago Bulls and the NBA.
In related news, WB has also moved up the third chapter in their Annabelle film series to June 28, 2019. Franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return to star with Gary Dauberman in the director's chair.
In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.
