Multiple sources are reporting that Academy Award-nominee Vera Farmiga has signed on for a major role in Legendary's upcoming Godzilla sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which will be the third installment in the studio's burgeoning MonsterVerse.
She joins a cast that currently features Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), who signed on in late January, and Kyle Chandler (Manchester By The Sea), who was cast just last week as the father of Brown's character. Farmiga will play the matriarch of the family.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but The Hollywood Reporter's story adds that Chandler's character will be the film's lead protagonist, playing the role of a scientist.
Michael Dougherty (Krampus) is helming the piece with a script he co-wrote alongside longtime collaborator Zach Shields (Krampus).
Farmiga is likely best known to audiences for her work in The Conjuring film series where she stars as Lorraine Warren. Her other film work includes acclaimed turns in The Departed, Up In The Air (for which she earned an Academy Award nomination & a Golden Globe nomination), Source Code, Running Scared, Safe House, and The Judge. She currently stars on the hit A&E psychological/horror drama Bates Motel as Norma Bates (a role that earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2013), which is in its fifth and final season.
