A new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes dropped during the Super Bowl last weekend, and while there are rumblings online about poor test screenings, it did an undeniably effective job of teasing what looks like an exciting new direction for the long-running series.

Now, thanks to SFFGazette.com, we have some new stills showing Owen Teague as Noa, Freya Allan as Nova, Peter Macon as Raka, Kevin Duran as the villain Proxima Caesar, Sara Wiseman as Dar, and an atmospheric shot of the ravaged Earth.

Teague's Noa is the franchise's new lead and, last year, he explained how Caesar actor Andy Serkis' impressive body of work served as a huge inspiration to him.

"I became an actor because I saw Andy Serkis play King Kong when I was a child," he said. "I was so in love with that character, and I remember my mom explained to me, 'That's a person in motion-capture and that's his performance.' I thought, 'Oh, I can do that!' So when this came around, I was sure I wouldn't get it because it was too good [to be true]."

Take a closer look at these new stills from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes below and stay tuned for more on this one as we have it.

In the movie, director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar's reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows.

As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague (IT), Freya Allan (The Witcher), Kevin Durand (Locke & Key), Peter Macon (Shameless), and William H. Macy (Fargo).

The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Avatar: The Way of Water) and Patrick Aison (Prey), based on characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. Producers include Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick, Jr. (The Maze Runner), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Jason Reed (Mulan), with Peter Chernin (Planet of the Apes) and Jenno Topping (Ford v. Ferrari) serving as executive producers.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a new entry in 20th Century Studios' global, epic franchise, now opens exclusively in theaters on May 10, 2024.

I thought the rebooted series a few years back was pretty good.

The cgi in this looks rather meh imo so far though. We'll see how long it takes for Disney to [frick] this up! 😝

@Feralwookiee - When the actor above said "I became an actor because I saw Andy Serkis play King Kong when I was a child," I was immediately confused. Took me a while to compute that that was probably 20 years ago now and so anyone who saw it when they were a child would now be an adult.

I too am old.

Is she naturally blonde or brunette. The Nova from the last Apes film was a blonde. Freya Allen looks better as a brunette.

@Forthas @Matchesz - I don't exactly know when the original movies take place (the 60s ones), but this is hundreds of years after Caesar's death. Could see it line up with those pretty well instead, but not with War

@Matchesz @Forthas - Freya is playing Mae not Nova

How can this be Nova when Nova was in War, if this is set a few hundred years after then how would she even be alive

Freya Allan is playing Mae in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. I don't know how you came across that she was playing Nova.
