Even the alien on that wall was pointless, put there as a reference to keep the fans happy it seems, just so it can actually be called some sort of alien prequel

This isn't my favorite film of all time, but I really enjoyed it. I think what caused most of my, disappointment, I guess you could say, was having Alien come out before it, so the bar was raised very high, impossibly high. If Alien were never made and then this just came out on it's own, I think myself, as well as others, may have enjoyed it a lot more. Sweet poster also.

Pretty sure Scott came out and said that this wasn't a prequel. He's right, in many terms it isn't. This movie did what comic book have been doing for ages, make a story that exists in the same universe as another franchise but is not a direct prequel, sequel, or tie-in to it. Prometheus' focus was on the Engineer's, not the Xenomorphs. For [frick]s sake, the big connection it makes to Alien is with the Deacon Alien at the end and even then that is a DISTANT ancestor to the xeno's. I can't help but love a sci-fi film that actually has a genuine feeling of marveling at discovery, interesting technology, and even brings up religious debate. It's so far the one in a million decent straight up sci-fi films in the past decade.

I hated Prometheus the first time I watched it, but then I found myself wanting to watch it again just to remind myself how bad it was and I found I actually enjoyed it. I just watched it for a third time, and I liked it even more. It's not bad, it's just batshit crazy.

Bring on the sequel.

It's a film that challenges the audience to think for themselves which is what i think more films should do. I just think people went in with the wrong mind set when going to see the film.

I think we're forgetting where the "fiction" part of Science Fiction comes in. I honestly have no clue how you can call bullshit on a science that was made for the movie and doesn't have many similarities to our own.

Character Motivations:
In it to discover alien life (Shaw & Holloway)
In it for money and job (the crew)
In it for the possibility of life (Weyland)
In it for greed (Vickers)
In it because of being programmed (David & Possibly Vickers)

Plot:
Goes to look for alien life.
Finds alien life.
Leaves for alien's planet.

My only slight nag was that it could have been either further removed from Alien or maybe pushed even closer to it like Spaight's original script apparently was. But again it's only a slight niggle and there's lots of wiggle room and an expanse of story telling territory they can make use of it we get the sequel.

I also thought the movie was awesome. I don't like being spoon feed so I like keeping a movie with an open imagination and come with your own answers. Original Alien film was like that and no one complained. The phoney professions is another story but I guess that just makes the movie ore entertaining.

Good movie. A few stupid plot points. Great take on the origin of life in that universe. Opening sequence and musical score were fantastic. I'm just easy to please I guess...

Stoll haven't seen Prometheus. I was very exctied about it at first, but didn't manage to catch it in the theater. Since then kind of negative response it got managed to scare me away. I'll watch it at some point, if only for the visuals.
