IGN has confirmed that they will share the first trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter this Wednesday at 6am PT. Sony Pictures' sudden decision to release the movie in 2020 definitely came as a surprise, though it's fair to say fans of the video game franchise don't exactly have high hopes for the Resident Evil helmer's take on the beloved series.
Our first proper look at Monster Hunter should be worth checking out tomorrow, though, and the filmmaker told the site what he hopes to bring to the table with his live-action adaptation.
"I wanted to recapture the feeling of when I first played the video game. I came to the game not knowing anything about it," Anderson explains. "And as a stranger, I was immersed in this world containing these amazing landscapes and these amazing creatures that would kick my ass. And I thought, 'I want that. That should be the filmgoing experience as well.'"
That led to him creating a new lead in the form of Milla Jovovich's Captain Natalie Artemis, a military officer who finds herself trapped in a world ruled by monsters. Artemis is a newly created character for the movie, but she will wield some familiar weapons in the form of those formidable Dual Blades.
Those can be seen below in a newly revealed shot of Jovovich as this badass warrior:
