New Empire Avatar Issue

New Empire Avatar Issue

James Cameron is getting some major exposure here with Empire showcasing his dream movie "Avatar."

This from Empire online:

"After all the excitement of the "Avatar" trailer on Thursday, here's another treat: the new issue of Empire has "Avatar" on the cover - and not just once but five times! Yes, every issue has a fold-out cover with three stars and two huge stills from the film.

The issue is jam packed with exclusive pictures and on-set access from the film inside-- giving you your best look yet at what James Cameron has in store for.

That's only the tip of the iceberg in terms of this month's content, of course. But to get the rest, you're going to have to pick up the October issue of Empire, on sale August 27."

Myself and Johnny Love will be at the Portage 16 IMAX Theater December 18th to review this feat of cinematography. Personally I am geeked about this film and have been since first hearing that it was actually out of development and filming. I can't wait to see the reaction from the movie goers as this movie is supposed to be the next link in the evolutionary movie making chain.

Head on over using the below link to see the rest of what Empire has in store for their Avatar issue.

I hope it's as good as everyone says it will be...I wasn't blown away by the trailer but I didn't hate it either. I think it's a really interesting storyline though, and I'm sure I'll go see it when it comes out.

I'm going to try and stay away from all the hype(if that's at all possible) in hopes that my vision of the movie won't be so high that it will never be to surmount my expectations.

Too much hype. Can't live up to if. Gonnabe phantom menace all over again.

Sdprophet@ As for keeping an open mind. I believe lee77 said gijoe was gonna be the darkhorse of the summer LONG before it came out. How is that keeping an open mind. Is It your opinion that keeping an open mind only means having a good preconcieved notion and not a bad one?

@ LEEE7777 that's what I've been going through with these negatives puttin' down a great work of art. But, time will tell and let Cameron's work speak for itself on Dec. 17..

@ Tyler82 what has unimpressed you of what your heard? please, enlighten me!!

The people who have seen the previews have said the 3D CGI is not very good, the scenes which they saw didn't sound good, and the story sounds completely unoriginal.

Enlightened enough?

Why is it wrong to have a preconcieved notion of a movie based on the trailer and advertising? Either good or bad? The whole purpose of advertising is to give the public an idea of the movie. Some people will like the concept and the preview footage and some won't. Why should they be called haters or lovers as opposed to people giving an opinion on what they see? They should be allowed to form an opinion, otherwise what the fck is the point of a trailer?

ITWT82,
Did you see the special preview? Your summary of what "people who have seen the previews have said" is FAR from accurate. That sounds more like what SOME have said about the trailer (which only gave us quick snapshots and some unfinished CG). The special footage was incredible...most are raving about it. When you see these digital characters in motion, you realize nothing has ever been done this well...especially at this epic scale. By the way, the sound was great. Cameron's a great storyteller so I have no worries there. You can't wrap this movie up in a nice trendy negative nutshell. When you trash everything about it you just sound like you are trying really hard to sound smart and impress people. Have fun trying to find creative ways to insult me now =)

Minotauro - 8/25/2009, 7:54 PM
@ Tyler82, I wonder if these so called "people" even know what good 3D CGI looks like. And for the "unoriginal" concept, what is original? A man who steals a power core and makes a metal suit and designs electric whips as a weapon to destroy a superhero?..Or a Metal engineered suit, designed by a billionaire genius who understands self pity and uses it to better himself and the world?..Compared to a marine who realizes he's fighting for the wrong cause and helps an alien race and to understand the value of life...catching on?!..
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 8/25/2009, 8:03 PM
Minotauro:Original is when you create a new story idea that people haven't seen before, not when you take different plot elements from a bunch of other movies and mix them all together.

SomeDude: No I did not see the preview. And most of the reviews I have seen haven't raved about it. They have been overall positive, but not raving. I was never trashing everything about the film. You should read my other posts about this film, you will not find me completely trashing the movie, but I am just expressing my opinions. I don't usually insult people, only when they insult me, but you are insulting me because I have a different opinion than yours, and that is immature and pointless.

Anyway, it's just a movie. You need to chill out and not jump all over anyone who has a different opinion. Movies are subjective, not everyone has to have the same opinion as you.

Somedude ill take a crack at it shall i!

Are you actually suggesting that if someone says something negative about a movie..any movie(because whats good for the goose is good for the gander) that there is no way that its actually what they feel about it, and are instead just want to sound "smart" and "impress" people? Do you need me to tell you how [frick]ing idiotic that sounds? Have you never saw a clip for something you didn't think looked good?? A movie you didn't like??..or is it just because we happen to be saying negative things about THIS particular movie that you think is the 2nd [frick]ing coming!

Superdog up there said it best. A trailer exists for us to form an opinion. If its bad its bad, if its good its good. People that criticize people for being critical befuddle me on every level. If someone calls me a "hater" again for saying i don't think something looks that good I'm gonna [frick]in explode!

The bottom line is this. Avatar was the most hyped movie i have ever witnessed. And the trailer didn't live up to the hype for me. Did i see the footage in 3D? No, maybe when i do I'll change my opinion of it. But for now i think it looks like a Pixar movie with the plot of Dances With Wolves.

I think I understand what SomeDude is saying in a way. Lemme play Devil's Advocate, hehe. I think he is saying that there are a group of people who like to jump on a bandwagon to take an opposing stance at all times, and they often choose to do so in an attempt to differentiate themselves and yes, 'demonstrate' what they feel is their vastly superior intellect and rationale. While certainly this is not applicable to all people or even the majority of people, I do agree that these assholes exist and in large number on the internet. SomeDude has made a mistake though, in saying that ANYONE who doesn't join the flock and chant good tidings of this coming film must surely fall in this category. That is incredibly narrow-minded and an open attempt to insult anyone who disagrees with you. Don't be a deucher, no one assailed you, no reason for you to fire a salvo. Your just bringing a rain of shit on yourself.

Superdog is correct, the very purpose of a preview is to grab you up and pull you in, and Avatar failed to do it totally, especially when you consider the MASSIVE hype it has been privy to. I don't think a person should form a strong opinion based on a preview, as too often I have been fooled myself, but a basic idea of what to expect and your level of excitement play directly to what you see in previews. It is indeed what they are for.

Rorshach is also correct in that this is by far the most over-hyped movie I have ever heard of in my life... and hype almost always kills.

yeah im not a big fan of this censorship crap. i understand if its your article they wanna give you some control over it. but you cant just delete whoever you want for whatever reason. whats the point of having an open forum if you can do that.

Myth i know those people do exist, i hate them too! I remember all the hype for the LOTR movies and people saying the were going to suck because in the first trailer Gandalf grabs Frodo by the shoulder, and he never did in the book! Idiots. But i loved those trailers and loved those movies and for me they lived up to the hype.

superdog - 8/26/2009, 12:38 PM
i luv movie previews. thats honestly half the reason i go to the movies sometimes. i like watching them online and i always wanna get to the movie on time to watch them. when i do i say that movie looks awesome, or that movie looks like crap. doesnt mean i will or wont see a movie based on them. but sometimes it does, as i and the myth stated, the whole point is to get you to want to see it. this movie so far doesnt make me want to see it, but that doesnt mean i wont change my mind.

Superdog, Ror: Movie Trailers are sometimes the best part of the movie. It really sucks when that happens though.
