Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

The image comes from the article over at Hero Complex, where writer of the film Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost) talks about the scope of Prometheus. More below:

"The movie is definitely epic in its scope. One of the filmmakers that we ended up talking about to a fair degree of redundancy was David Lean, who directed ‘Lawrence of Arabia.’ We wanted to make the movie feel big by having the characters be small in big spaces, That connected to the larger themes we were talking about — that we’re all just these little gnats crawling around on our little planet."

Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus is set to hit theatres on June 8th, 2012.

I truly believe that after Ridley walked away from the Alien franchise, JC took it in an entirely different direction thus creating the world of Alien we know and love today. Unfortunately, Cameron has a way of doing what he wants in Hollywood, enabling him to make changes as he sees fit. With Ridley back on board, it appears that he's trying to set the record straight as far as the Alien back story was supposed to go according to the Geiger design. Riddle claims he's 'creating a new mythology' via Prometheus. This 'new mythology' could very well change the way we look at the Alien creature, Space Jockeys, and all that goes with it. I'm very curious to see how it unfolds.

If you zoom in the picture, notice the patch on her arm says Weyland. You'll notice also in places on the chest of her space suit and the straps is the Weyland Logo.

Hope it answers some questions that have been lingering for 30+ years.

BTW @sarahsatire , that's the worst rendition of a 'space jockey' I've ever seen.

@thanos83: You are of course not at all alone on that notion..., but I'm sure Prometheus will prove to be fairly decent film..., if not better..., especially seeing as how it's being directed by the original creator of the Alien franchise and not some other director..., ya know?... *optimistic*; *cool*; P :)

Director James Cameron helped create the concept for the Queen Alien. A creature that was developed for the sequel to Alien, and wasn't part of H.R. Gieger's original concept designs. Here's a few excerpts from reliable sources:
"A fan of the original film, Cameron was interested in crafting a sequel and entered a self-imposed seclusion to brainstorm a concept for Alien II.", "Cameron was enticed by the opportunity to create a new world and opted not to follow the same formula as Alien, but to create a worthy combat sequel focusing "more on terror, less on horror", "The design of the queen was created by Cameron in collaboration with special effects artist Stan Winston, based upon an initial painting Cameron had done at the start of the project". So basically, this tells me that Cameron, with help from Stan Winston, recreated the world of Alien that we know today. A world that didn't exist when Scott and H.R. Gieger crafted the original concept. Ridley Scott has stated numerous times that the Alien creatures will not be featured in this film exactly. The film takes place before the event's in Alien, and he is 'creating a NEW mythology' aside from the one we know today from Aliens - Alien Resurrection. Meaning no Queen Alien. "Chickens before eggs, Bruce!"

Hah! Good eye, man! I'd have never caught that.

Agreed. Making me wonder if the jockeys are already extinct by the time of the movie.

They are Space Jockey suits! If you watch the trailer again you will notice in the scene with the Space Jockey's chair rising from the floor there is a bald humanoid with white skin and black eyes standing by it I believe that is the Space Jockey out of the suit and so do many others online. He fits the chair to scale so it makes sense to me.....watch it again and tell me what you think?

There's nothing "HOT" about Noomi Rapace, she has the worse pair of tits I've ever seen on the screen. But I'm glad she's getting her 15 minutes of Hollywood fame because soon she'll be surplus to requirement in that town once her fad has died.

I really wanted to see what Ridley Scott was planning for the true back story.

James Cameron has previously admitted he wasn't looking to make alien 2, he tried to buy the rights to starship troopers, but was unable to acquire them. That is why so much of aliens is taken from starship troopers (drop ships, power armour, aliens operating more like insects, alien queen) I for one would love for Cameron to have made troopers!! I love aliens, but I would have loved to have seen Scott's sequel ideas.

That's why I can't wait for Prometheus!!

@Unionjack: Your chronological order is a lil' e skewed my friend. Starship Troopers had 1997 release date. Aliens came out in '86. That's an 11 year difference. What actually transpired was, Cameron was given full reigns to shoot the Aliens film because of his success with Terminator. Also, totally side-playing Scott/HR Giger's original work. Either way you look at it James Cam is a jerk lol, but Aliens predates Starship Troopers. So that cannot be.

I'm telling you guys, one of the best movies of this year!
But i hope it gives us some answers but I hope It gives us MORE questions because, after all, the mistery surrounding the aliens and the Space Jockeys is a BIG part of the franchise.

SpiderAssasin, Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, A Good Year, Robin Hood. Scott has failed plenty of times but when he gets it right he tends to be great!
