THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens November 22, 2013.

It is amazing to me how a movie could be such a success after stealing the whole Hunger Games idea from one of the cult classics.

Go ahead and do your home work kiddies.....Fact.

Oh really jet, I had no idea! Perhaps the first thousand people to say that same thing, I just totally ignored! Thanks for having us check the facts yet again on the oh so awesome battle royale

So Jett, what do you think is happening in this movie?
Because heads up - it doesn't involve kids being abducted from their districts. There's a giant cliffhanger ending to Catching Fire, not unlike Empire Strikes Back.

Geez, I bet with Mockingjay he'll be saying the same sh*t.

Jett, do doubt the initial concept of what was happening in the first book was taken from Battle or just a huge coincidence (I think the author said she'd never see or read it) same with that 90's movie. But people making comments like yours towards other people about "shallowly enjoying media" is quite hypocritical in the fact that you haven't taken the time to know anything about the Hunger Games world. It extends far beyond the BR influence, and it about something so vastly different.

One could make the argument that the overall story owes Alan Moore's "V for vendetta" and all the many copies of those kinds of stories as much or more than your beloved Battle Royale.

In the same way Lucas can say there would be no Star Wars without Star trek, or how scifi has been ripping off John Carter stories for the last 70 + years. Sure there might not be a Hunger Games without Battle Royale existing, but the thing as a whole is a much different beast.

But hey guess what thats my opinion, you get to have yours, let others have theirs, if you don't wanna see the movie stay home and watch BR on bluray.

Enough with Battle Royale. There's is a reason about why The Hunger Games is a mayor succes and Battle Royale is not, don't you think?
