Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson

Could Luc Besson's Lucy be the surprise hit of the summer? Although, science has debunked that trope that humans only use 10% of their brain, I'm willing to ignore facts for an entertaining time at the cinema. And based on the trailers and tv spots released thus far, Scarlett Johansson is going to absolutley tear it up when Lucy hits US theaters on August 8th, 2014. The film also stars Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Lego Movie) and Analeigh Tipton (Warm Bodies, Hung). Side note, does this film remind anyone else of an earlier, also original,  superhero movie that starred Johansson's  Avenger co-star Chris Evans, 2009's Push?

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Lucy also stars Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman and is produced by Virginie Besson-Silla for EuropaCorp. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie worldwide, except for France, Benelux and China.

Looks like a cool film, but I'm in two minds about this - anything that perpetrates the silly meme that we only use 10% of our brain is not a good thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_percent_of_brain_myth

Why is this film getting haters?
It's got the very sexy ScarJo & superpowers PLUS Morgan Freeman!
Luc Besson has made some cool movies before as well. I'm going to see it.

Looks like Besson unfortunately only used one percent of his brain when he wrote this. Looks shit.

This is the kind of project where you see one trailer and you've pretty much seen the whole movie.

ScarJo is considered box office poison like Nicole Kidman. All the films she's been in minus Marvel movies either flopped or never grossed over 100 million. Would thought her being the star of this was a good idea?

Lol can't believe a movie in 2014 is still using that disproven "10% of the brain" theory. Oh well Scarlett Johansson is hot as hell and thats really the only reason I'd watch this movie.

When I start paying good money to see movies because someone is "hot" is the day I'm 13 again, unattractive and with no access to any form of pornography.

I already cannot stand this flick. It's like an exercise in how much stupidity one can cram into a single, godawful movie.

So she can use 100% of her brain (which, yes, the whole 10% thing is a myth, so even the PREMISE is stupid)... and somehow this gives her not just astonishing intelligence, but telekinesis, shape-shifting, wingless flight (at one point during her transformation she's writhing on the ceiling), hyper-advanced senses including vision across the entire E-M spectrum, and... the ability to see backwards through time.

Because she's using more brainpower.

This is beyond stupid-- it's insulting. It's like the filmmakers decided to throw every possible superpower they could think of into this one movie, and came up with the most ridiculous possible explanation for all of them, just to see if audiences would buy it. If this whole movie turned out to be some sort of elaborate prank, I honestly would not be surprised.

Scarlet Johansson may be hot, and she may be a pretty good actress, but she can't possibly save this train wreck of a movie... even with all the superpowers in the world.

Also, I don't know if anyone's told the filmmakers, but if you create a character who can do literally anything... THERE'S NO WAY TO CREATE DRAMATIC TENSION.

Seriously, if she can control her own cells, all matter, and other people, where's the threat? What's the conflict? That she's losing her humanity? Is SHE the threat in this movie? It doesn't seem so... it looks like they're setting her up to be an anti-hero.

So I guess my point is, WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS MOVIE?!? Because these trailers haven't given me a single reason to care about the story they're telling-- it's just a string of psuedo-science bullcrap threading through a bunch of clips of ScarJo doing ridiculous sh*t.

Unless I hear some ASTONISHINGLY good things about it, I hope I never have to sit through this mess.

I think this looks great, but I wonder if the ending will live up to the concept.
