Get your first glimpse of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in Dean Israelite's Power Rangers reboot below. Fans of the original TV series probably won't pick up on too many similarities to that take on the character, though we all expected her look to be updated of course.

Banks spoke to EW about this version of Repulsa, and expresses excitement at the prospect of playing a villain for the first time. “It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” explains the Hunger Games star “We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers. I’ve never played a villain before, let alone an alien warrior.”

Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

Power Rangers is set for release on March 24, 2017.

Holy crap! I like the styling of the costume. It's much darker and grittier, which is something the Power Rangers desperately need.

Wow, not bad! Makes Charlize Theron's Ravenna outfit look like child's play.

The movie better be good. I've been a Power Rangers fan for the longest time.

I like it. I never liked the Rita Repulsa of old, she reminded me too much of my childhood best friend's mom, "Mitsy", who was always screaming at her sons from the house. Ugh, I couldn't handle it. But I like the new look, I'm on board so far.

If this is the kind of radical re-designs we're in store to see, I'm excited to see what the Power Rangers actually look like.
