With the Power Rangers franchise under new leadership, thanks to Hasbro, last weekend's Power Morphicon 6 was one of the more eagerly-awaited events of the year for longtime Power Rangers fans and while, the popular toy manufacturer didn't have too much to share, they did drop one very interesting bombshell that should tide over fans for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, BOOM! Studios was also very prominently featured as they previewed the end of Shattered Grid and the future of their two critically-acclaimed comic runs.

Power Rangers Lightning Collection

Hasbro's recent acquisition of the Power Rangers franchise made their toy panel on Saturday arguably the most anticipated of the weekend and they wasted absolutely no time in sharing their first official Power Rangers product and collector's line: the Power Rangers Lightning Collection.

The collection, which replaces Bandai's Legacy collection, will be an anthology series, meaning different Rangers and villains from a variety of series - outside of just Mighty Morphin - will be released over the next several years. The Lightning Collection launches in the Spring with the original White Ranger.
  • Releasing in Spring 2019 in the US
  • Priced at $19.99 each 6-inch scale
  • "The most show-authentic Power Rangers figures ever!"
  • New anthology series approach; mixed waves
  • 27 points of articulation
  • Accessories included
  • Weapons included
  • Optional special effects pieces included
  • Swappable "photo real" actor likeness included

Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel: 25th Anniversary Cast Revealed

Earlier this month, we learned that Jason David Frank, Catherine Sutherland, and Jason Faunt would be reprising their roles in the Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel 25th Anniversary episode, which is titled "Dimensions in Danger," and now, the full cast list has been revealed.

In addition to Frank and Sutherland, Mighty Morphin co-star Steve Cardenas will also be returning to the franchise for the first time in nearly two decades as Rocky - but in an interesting twist, he'll be suiting up as the Red Ranger instead of the Blue Zeo Ranger.
  • Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver, Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)
  • Steve Cardenas (Rocky DeSantos, Mighty Morphin Red Ranger)
  • Catherine Sutherland (Katherine Hillard, Turbo Pink Ranger)
  • Selwyn Ward (TJ Johnson, In Space Blue Ranger)
  • Jason Faunt (Wes Collins, Time Force Red Ranger)
  • Jeff Parazzo (Trent Mercer, Dino Thunder White Ranger)
  • Li Ming Hu (Gemma, RPM Silver Ranger)
  • Steven Skyler (Antonio Garcia, Samurai Gold Ranger)
  • Ciara Hanna (Gia Moran, Megaforce Yellow Ranger)
  • Yoshi Sudarso (Koda, Dino Charge Blue Ranger)
While the returning actors will undoubtedly be welcomed by fans, it is disappointing that, yet again, none of the surviving original Power Rangers - Austin St. John (Jason/Red Ranger), Walter Jones (Zack/Black Ranger), David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger), and Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly/Pink Ranger) - were asked to join an anniversary celebration episode.

Here's to hoping Hasbro manages to rectify that egregious oversight for the 30th anniversary.

Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel: 25th Anniversary Trailer Released

Following the cast reveal, IGN shared a new trailer, featuring footage from the fall return episode and the 25th-anniversary episode, which is titled "Dimensions in Danger."

Power Rangers Beast Morphers Cast Revealed

Saturday was a big day for the franchise as the principal cast of Power Rangers Beast Morphers - the first series under Hasbro's ownership - was finally revealed to an eager audience.

Newcomers Rorrie Travid, Jasmeet Baduwalia, and Jacqueline Scislowski have been cast as the Red, Blue, and Yellow Rangers, respectively, and were all present in full costume. The team will also consist of a Gold and Silver Ranger, but don't expect those reveals until sometime next year.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers Trailer Released

While filming has yet-to-begin on the upcoming series, Hasbro and Nickelodeon did share a first look trailer, featuring some of the footage that will likely be featured when the show premieres early next year.

The synopsis reads: Power Rangers Beast Morphers is set in the near-future, where scientists have learned to channel the powers of the legendary Morphing Grid to create technology far beyond anything seen before. But when the EVOX computer virus gains sentience & wants the Grid for himself, a team of warriors must unite to stop him- by combining Morphing Grid energy with animal DNA to become the newest team of Power Rangers!"

Lord Drakkon Funko POP! Vinyl Figure Announced

The fan-favorite comic book villain is getting his very own Funko POP! vinyl figure and ToyWiz has shared some first look concert art that gives us a pretty good idea at what he'll ultimately look like. It's currently available to pre-order on their website for $12.99.

Power Rangers Legacy Wars Adds Five To Its Roster

As part of the epic 25th-anniversary celebration update, the popular Power Rangers Legacy Wars mobile game has added five new warriors to its ever-growing roster. Additionally, the update will also include a number of new features, including a new Power Chamber environment (Juice Bar), a new arena (Corrupted Megazord Hanger), Megazord Custom Battles, Taunt Inventory, and a VIP program.

The new heroes are:
  • Gold Samurai (Antonio Garcia) from Samurai – August 24th
  • Shadow Ranger (“Doggie” Cruger) from SPD – September
  • Ranger Slayer (Kimberly Hart) from the Go Go Power Rangers Comics – September
  • Hyperforce Yellow (Jack Thomas) from Hyperforce – October
  • Titanium Ranger (Ryan Mitchell) from Lightspeed Rescue – October

Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel 25th Anniversary Clip Released

This clip was actually released today, but it's still worth sharing as it offers an extended sneak peek at the return of Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank). Fellow legacy Rangers, including Wes (Jason Faunt), Gemma (Li Ming Hu), and Koda (Yoshi Sudarso), also feature.

Power Rangers Shattered Grid Comes To An Epic Close

BOOM! Studios wraps its first major Power Rangers event with an epic and emotional conclusion to Shattered Grid in the standalone issue, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid #1, which will go on sale next Tuesday on Power Rangers Day. It will also include a special "Shattered Holofoil" variant, which you can view below:

Power Rangers Beyond The Grid Begins A New Adventure

With Shattered Grid coming to a close next week, BOOM Studios shared an extended look at their next major Power Rangers event, which is subtitled Beyond The Grid. Marguerite Bennet and Simone Di Meo will be the new creative team moving forward.

The story arc will follow a diverse new team, led by the Ranger Slayer Kimberly Hart. The squad is rounded out by Tanya (Yellow/Zeo), Andros (Red/In Space), Mike (Magna Defender/Lost Galaxy), Cam (Green/Ninja Storm), and Heckyl (Dark/Dino Charge).

Dark Ranger

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #31 will introduce Power Rangers Dino Charge's Heckyl as The Dark Ranger while issue #35 will explain exactly how he got his powers and more. He's expected to play a major role in Beyond The Grid as he joins the Ranger Slayer and her new team on a dangerous new mission.

Solar Ranger

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #31 will also introduce another new female Ranger, one that's a completely original creation. However, unlike the Dark Ranger, her identity and role in Beyond the Grid is being kept under wraps for the time being. but due to the secrecy, we can probably expect her to have a big part to play throughout the new arc.

Ranger Road Trip In Go Go Power Rangers #14

The original Mighty Morphin team will get back to business in Go Go Power Rangers #14, which will pack a number of unexpected surprises, one of which will be the Rangers swapping colors for some unknown reason.

The synopsis reads: Separated for the first time since becoming Power Rangers, the teens must use their wits and inner strength to overcome the odds and distance between them, just as Rita Repulsa comes ever closer to unearthing her ultimate weapon!

Jason and Trini Share A Kiss In Go Go Power Rangers #15

Plot details for Go Go Power Rangers #15 remain under wraps, but the cover does feature a pretty major spoiler as it reveals that Jason and Trini's relationship will indeed be taking a romantic turn. The issue isn't out until December, so it'll be a while before fans will get a chance to read what Ryan Parrott has planned for the two legendary heroes, but expect it to be plenty exciting.

The Rangers Swap Colors In Go Go Power Rangers #16

Well, this is certainly an interesting development. We knew that both Jason and Trini would be swapping colors, but now, we also know that the entire team will have changed colors for a still-to-be-determined reason. Trini is now leading the team as the Red Ranger while Zack is the new Pink Ranger, Billy is the Black Ranger, Kimberly is the Blue Ranger, and Jason is the Yellow Ranger.

Go Go Power Rangers #16 is due out in January 2019.

Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon

Tommy’s son JJ in “Soul of the Dragon” graphic novel

A post shared by No Pink Spandex (@nopinkspandex) on

Tommy Oliver is getting his very own graphic novel that will tell the untold story of his post-Ranger life. The synopsis isn't particularly revealing, but the panel pages do confirm that Tommy and Kat end up together and when Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon picks up, they'll also have a son named JJ.

Their son will actually set the events of the graphic novel in motion when he goes missing and forces his legendary Ranger father to morph back to action.

Synopsis: "It’s been a long time since Tommy Oliver has served as a Power Ranger. He’s defeated space witches, brought down evil armies, protected the galaxy, but now Tommy leaves protecting the world to the Power Rangers at Space Patrol Delta. But when his son goes missing, it’s up to Tommy to discover a secret in his past, in order to save his future. Now Tommy will call on all his training, his friends, and maybe even some of his enemies as he sets out on his most important mission: find his son and bring him home."

The description does mention old friends, so don't cross out potentially seeing older versions of the original MMPR team and maybe other faces from across the franchise.

Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon hits stores this December.

Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid

The convention also brought a first look at Renegade Games Studios' upcoming Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid tabletop game, which comes to us from the mind of designer Jonathan Ying (Star Wars: Imperial Assault).

The game has already been completely funded, reaching its $100,000 pledge goal within eight hours of being announced. There are also a number of pledge goals, starting at $75, and continuing to $90, $150, and $240, which will allow backers to earn exclusive expansion packs and add-ons.

At the time of this posting, the campaign has earned over $328,722 with 11 days to go.

Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid is a co-operative board game for 2-5 players that challenges your team to save Angel Grove from Rita Repulsa’s evil army of monsters. Work together to fight off the incoming horde while building up your strength to protect the city from the most dangerous monsters in the universe! Prepare for your destiny. It’s Morphin Time!

Go Go Power Rangers: Back To School #1

It's Spring Break for our heroes in Go Go Power Rangers: Back to School #1, an upcoming one-shot special that will tell a fun new story sending each member of the MMPR team on their own individual adventure. It goes on sale next month.

Synopsis: It’s Spring Break for the Rangers, and the first time since they received their Power Coins that the Rangers will be apart. As they each embark on their own week-long vacation, these teenagers with attitude discover that being a hero doesn’t always mean having to morph!

Power Morphicon Express

Power Morphicon is hitting the road with a new traveling version of the biennial convention, which has been dubbed Power Rangers Express, and the first stop will be in Pasadena, Texas on April 6-7, 2019.

Former Mighty Morphin Green Ranger Jason David Frank will be headlining the show, which promises to feature some of your favorite Rangers from the past twenty-five years. However, with Frank as the frontman, don't be surprised if some of his original castmates, like Austin St. John (MMPR Red), somehow don't make it onto the guest list.

Read the press release below:

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA: Just announced at the Official Power Morphicon Convention, a BRAND-NEW traveling version of Power Morphicon called POWER MORPHICON EXPRESS will be hitting the road. It will take the fun and excitement of the original Power Morphicon Convention and bring the largest official Power Rangers fan convention to life in a collection of new cities.

Power Morphicon Convention is the biggest and only officially recognized Power Rangers fan convention in the world since 2007. It has been led by veteran convention and show runner Scott Zillner since its second expo in 2010. Now after six explosively successful shows, Power Morphicon Convention is ready to take the express route.

Jason David Frank, best know as Tommy Oliver (the original Green Ranger and most popular and active actor over the course of the show’s 25-year run), will lead the show across various cities, making sure that everyone has the opportunity to get in on the Power Rangers Convention fun and adventures. Just like the large-scale show which takes place every two years in Southern California, Power Morphicon Express will give fans the opportunity to meet a collection of their favorite Power Rangers actors, hear them speak in panels, buy incredible merchandise in the vendor hall, and see Power Rangers inspired art by local artists.

Power Morphicon Express will hit the road in 2019 with its first stop scheduled in Pasadena, Texas.

Power Morphicon 7

Finally, it appears that Hasbro will continue to allow Power Morphicon to exist as the owners of the biennial convention officially announced on Sunday that Power Morphicon 7 will indeed happen in August 2020.

OH man! Power Rangers should start getting serious and do movies that are of the caliber of the MCU. Even though I haven't read the comics, I think it has potential to make great movies.

Leave them the same for the TV shows, but adapt the comics for movies with more seriousness and much much more budget.

It would be fantastic!

Another thing that @KingPatel didn’t mention is that Renegade Games Studios, a company known for making tabletop board games, and Designer Jonathan Ying (Star Wars: Imperial Assault and Warhammer 40K Forbidden Stars) are creating a Power Rangers tabletop board game called Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid. Renegade Games started a Kickstarter campaign September 14th and reached their goal of $100,000.00 USD within the first 8 hours of the campaign. The campaign ends on Thursday, September 6th and like all Kickstarters, there are stretch goals for things like extra monsters and characters pieces to play as.

Power Rangers fans and Comic Book fans should really read the Comics From Boom .I never thought that PR can be that good , all the characters are really interesting and they are in the middle of candy of Crisis Of infinite world arc with à lot of Cross-over .
shadowspider9
shadowspider9 - 8/26/2018, 1:50 PM
I think the most ironic thing is that the show is still just as goofy, cheesy, and stupid as it's ever been.

But the comic is amazing. The plot, character development, and lore expansion are better then most Marvel or DC comics, and far beyond anything we could ever hope to get in the show.
NightwingNad
NightwingNad - 8/26/2018, 2:23 PM
@shadowspider9 - Agree 100% with you I want à Animation adaptation to the Comics . Only animation can do good for this franchise (they should really cancel the live show and go full animation) .
shadowspider9
shadowspider9 - 8/26/2018, 4:51 PM
@NightwingNad - Sadly the main reason they keep the show live action is for budget reasons.
They usually film in New Zealand to exploit tax loop holes, and the fact a third to half of every episode is re-used sentai footage means that episode are made for dirt cheap.

The only exceptions are specials like this where they have to pay to fly in and house old cast members and pay for lots of original footage.

I do fully agree an animated show would be miles better.
Rhaspodel
Rhaspodel - 8/27/2018, 2:02 PM
You know I really hope they bring back the original PR actors except for Thuy, to come back for a special 30th anniversary show or at least a big fan event.
