After a successful run in theaters and garnering praise from both critics and audiences, 20th Century Fox's Planet Of The Apes reboot, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, debuted on DVD and Blu-Ray last Tuesday, December 13th. Now, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that, based on sales from that week ending on the 18th, the film made it to the top spot on both home video sales charts. It beat out Kung Fu Panda 2 (one of the most successful animated movies of the year) on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert and Blu-Ray Discs sales charts. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes generated 49% of its sales in Blu-Ray Sales. The exact numbers are currently unknown at the moment, but we'll update when those numbers come in.

Rise of the Planets of the Apes, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, debuted at No. 1 on both national home video sales charts the week ending Dec. 18, outpacing Paramount/Dreamworks Kung Fu Panda 2, which bowed at No. 2 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.

Both films had similar box office earnings; Planet took in $165.3 million and Panda $176.7 million. Nielsen data shows that Kung Fu Panda 2 sold 77% as many units as Rise of the Planets of the Apes, overall, and 57% as many Blu-ray Discs.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes generated 49% of its first-week sales from Blu-ray Disc, while the high-definition version accounted for 36% of total Kung Fu Panda 2 disc sales.

This is definitely good news for the studio, who has been interested in doing a sequel (Which is currently in development) and now has another reason to go ahead with another installment. But what do you think of the sales for the film? Share your thoughts below in the usual place.
