Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Global Box Office Update

Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Global Box Office Update

For anyone who has desired a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, that possibility now seems like a foregone conclusion given the film's gross at the global box office.

The numbers are in for this past weekend, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes is this close to the profit point, so a sequel is about as close to a go as the project could be without the official announcement. In the United States and Canada, Rise has pulled in $104.8 million dollars, while the film opened in a number of overseas territories, increasing its foreign take to $74.4. This brings the film to $179.2 million, just $7 million shy of what is perceived to be the break-even point.

I really do think that this movie has surprised and will continue to surprise people. The skepticism greeting its announcement and even production was SO thick, yet it shows that a reboot can work when handled properly.

I have talked to five different friends over the past couple days who saw the movie and none were impressed. They all said it was extremely slow.

I haven't seen the movie and by no means plan to. but here's my question for those who've seen it: WHY DON'T THEY JUST SHOOT THE FREAKING APES!?!?!?!?!?!

RunDTC; watch and find out.

This movie was good because of 1 key ingredient. Simplistity. It was so simple and just flowed. Nothing too crazy or over the top (action wise) and you had nothing but sympathy for the fury militia. It was also never dull. A+ IMO

I'm just saying, wouldn't it make sense to just shoot them? they're not bulletproof.

@mpk1988: send me some $ and I'll go.

@runDTC they are shot at and some ARE killed, they aren't portrayed to be invincible, just determined as hell

Saw it tonight and it was a great movie, my hubby even got teary eyed which NEVER happens. great story, good acting, and ceasar was an amazing character.

@ranger14 not sure if ur friends saw the same movie but there's plenty of action, it's not slow at all, the action starts within the first 5 minutes.

@sheebz: thank you for a non-threatening response.

@JackDexx: I just don't get the appeal. I will see it (ignore my original comment), I just don't get the appeal of Apes Gone Wild. that's all. no reason to be an a-hole because I'm trying to better inform myself about the movie.

I hope the sequel, or part of the sequel, is set in New York. If not, they can save it for the third film.

If someone is saying they didn't like it or won't see it, it's obvious that they are lying and trying to get Jackdexx upset so they can report him (hint hint). The movie is an instant classic and will be talked aboput from now on. Live with it.

OK. except for JackDexx, y'all have been helpful. thank you. I read a little bit more about the movie and am now actually looking forward to seeing it. but do I need to see the original(s) before? or will it still make sense for someone who hasn't seen one before?
headlopper
headlopper - 8/14/2011, 8:00 PM
@rundtc- Yeah, watch the first one and you'll enjoy the movie much more. Also it's assumed apes are endangered species protected by international law, so the premise is not to kill them if possible.
mpk1988
mpk1988 - 8/14/2011, 8:10 PM
@rundtc: headlopper is right... but u'll manage pretty well even if you don't watch any of the originals.. Infact.. for you.. U better go str8 and watch this one.. tht way u aren't bothered by any discontinuity or odd stuff..

Saw it last nite...FRICKIN AWESOME!!!! I was more surprised of how much I loved it. I knew I'd like it cause I grew up on the original movies from the 70's and this being loosely based on Escape from the Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes I'd knew it would be good...but I didn't expect greatness. SEE THIS MOVIE GUYS!!!
