For many years, Warner Bros. has tried multiple times to develop a remake to the cult classic 1976 science-fiction film,
Logan's Run. The film was based on 1967 book of the same name, written by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. In the mid-90's, Joel Silver was brought in to write and direct a remake, but that didn't happen. Then in 2004, Bryan Signer was brought in to work on it, but that didn't happen. In 2007, WB hired Joseph Kosinski ("Oblivion") to work on a low-budget version, but that stalled out and Kosinki moved onto
Tron: Legacy. In 2010, Carl Erik Rinsch was hired to direct, but left the project to work on
47 Ronin. In 2011,
Drive director, Nicolas Winding Refn, was hired. Of course that too never materialized, but did come close as they at least had Ryan Gosling and Rose Byrne lined up to star in it. In June of last year,
Bioshock creator Ken Levine was hired to pen a new screenplay. There has been no update on the project since then.
For those not familiar with
Logan's Run, I'll give you a brief rundown. After an apocalyptic event in the 23rd century, survivors created a new hedonistic society inside of a domed city. Life appeared to be blissful in their bubbled environment, but their pleasure comes at a high price. They kill everyone who reaches the age of thirty. In the book, they kill everyone that reaches the age of 21. This is done to prevent overpopulation, as they have to manage their limited resources. Most of the citizens accept this way of life, and are vaporized in a final ritual known as Carrousel. Not everyone is okay with this form of population control and they choose to run. It is then up to the Sandmen to hunt down the runners. The plot kicks into motion when Logan 5 (Michael York), a Sandman becomes a runner.

Joseph Kosinski was working on, with
Children of Men screenwriter Timothy J. Sexton. Only thing we know about it was that it would've featured low-tech and the plot would've tried to be more faithful to the novel.
Fun fact: actress Jenny Agutter, who
played Jessica 6 (pictured above) in Logan's Run, was the older female council member in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that surprises everyone with her youthful buttkicking skills.
