Star Trek: The Next Generation (often abbreviated to TNG) is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry twenty-one years after the original Star Trek series as part of the Star Trek franchise. Roddenberry, Maurice Hurley, Rick Berman and Michael Piller served as executive producers at different times throughout the production. The series is set in the nearby regions of the Milky Way galaxy; the first season takes place in the year 2364, 100 years after the start of the five-year mission of the Enterprise described in the original series, which began in 2264.It features a new crew and a new starship Enterprise. Patrick Stewart's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose, updated from the original to represent an open-ended "mission"

^ LOL I was thinking the same thing

Back to relevance....I never was able to get into TNG. What made TOS charming to me was how real everything seemed to be treated. The science was believable, the moral lessons were valuable, the quirkiness was charming, the main cast was charismatic; I felt TNG lacked all those qualities...
