Is There A New Star Trek Animated Series In The Works?

Recent tweets from Star Trek writer Roberto Orci indicate that there are some sort of talks concerning a new animated TV series for the sci-fi franchise. More after the jump!

The original animated Star Trek series aired for two seasons in the early 1970's, and was the first major Trek series to succeed the original. Despite its short run, it was declared by IGN that it was even more creative than the original series.

Recently, Roberto Orci - who co-wrote and was executive producer of the 2009 Star Trek reboot - was asked on Twitter if a new animated Star Trek series could be made. Here is his response:



So, do you guys like the idea of another animated incarnation of the Star Trek characters? Anyways, the currently untitled sequel to the Star Trek reboot hits theaters June 29th, 2012!
