Matt Damon was almost cast as George Kirk in Star Trek

J.J. Abrams has revealed that the Oscar-winning actor was almost cast in Chris "Thor" Hemsworth's role!

The director-producer revealed, "I went to Damon for the role of Kirk's father George Kirk, and he declined in the most gracious and understandable and logical of reasons. We lucked out with Chris Hemsworth, and he did a great job. Maybe it would have been distracting to have someone as massively famous as Matt Damon in that role."

Abrams added, "The decision was made very early on to have actors who were not necessarily the most famous but the most right for the role."

Damon would have been a fine choice but if Hemsworth hadnt of been in Star Trek then he may have never been cast as Thor so things all worked out for the best IMO! :)

@Josh- He's not bad for US Agent but Matt Dillon all the way, he has the CHIN!!! and good point, no Trek no Thor ...(maybe)...wasn't Hemsworth's little brother auditioning for Thor and then he got the role instead? :P

I think they made a good choice going for mostly unknown people. It made the movie seem like the actors were the characters instead of just being a Star acting like a character. People would have just thought, Oh Its [frick]ing Matt Damon!

matt damon is a great actor but i do not think he would have done the captains part right, he has humor but that would me the doctor would have to be played by that one guy he used to carry around, whats his name they are good freinds, who cares but just not right and getting old, at least hensworth i could see making more movies to build his career and wealth.

I glad they did not use Matt Damon, he is a worse actor than George Clooney. Hope he does not get hit by a bus (sarcasm).

Matt Damon is awesome. I think the reason he didnt want to be George Kirk is because people would perceive him as old. Granted he is like 38 but he has a young face.

matt damon would have made the perfect captain america if he was younger!!!! hell, they could still just use cg nowadays to make him look younger.

I hate Matt Damon Number21 is right he is a worse actor then George Clooney and almost as bad as Ben Affleck. I dont want him anywhere near Captain America unless Cap is punching him in the face. Also glad in Star Trek that they went with mostly unknowns. Best movie with "Matt Damon" is this one. LOL

How about Matt Dillon for Mac Gargan?!?!?! Raimdogg came up with that and i think he could pull it off.

Matt Damon could be a good US Agent for sure though.

Damon is not a terrible actor by any means. Don't you people watch the Bourne movies? Syriana? He does have a very strange shaped head though.

I still think Matt Damon would make a great Cap America, he's who I always pictured playing the cap after watching the Bourne movies. :)

Edit: Saving Private Ryan enforced that opinion too. :)

Fore sure he's got the talent. No question there. But yeah, he's a bit old.
Dmon
Dmon - 11/25/2009, 12:04 PM
He is too old also if he could play Cap then so could Mark Valley who is a much better choice. If Damon were to become Cap we might have to suffer through another Affleck/DareDevil performance. I did like the old Cap Daredevil team ups in the comics I just dont want to see it in movies with those two playing the parts. If you want Damon in the movie then he should play Baron Zemo or Baron Von Strucker so I can see Cap punching him in the face. Though Zemo should have a mask on at all times. I only liked the first Bourne movie and Syriana was boring and stupid, try reading the book it was very loosely based on it was much better.

matt damon is not a terrible acter, you guys on this site don't know shit if you think you want ackles or worthington or people like that for every role. he's a really good actor, you guys just dsont know shit who r saying he isnt a good actor.

have you ever seen good will hunting, saving private ryan, rainmaker, che, ponyo???????

Dmon - 11/25/2009, 4:18 PM
Joob@ I liked Good Will Hunting until he told Robin Williams' character to read A People's History of the United States. Which is a BS history book written by a Communist author. The author of which Matt Damon was neighbor to as a child in real life. Matt Damon shares his views. Sorry but I don't want anyone like that playing Captain America. I think it would be fair and best to have a centrist or someone who does not try and push their political views. Having a big star like Damon he will try and push his views in the film. But he would make a good Aleksander Lukin. lol Also you are downing peoples picks have you ever seen Mark Valley he is playing the Human Target in the new show based on a comic book.

MATT DAMON Pictures, Images and Photos
Anil, Joob, he is a good actor, no arguing, but he is a bed-wetting-liberal cry-baby. Really, do you want a puss cake like that playing Captain America? Do you? He's just another douchey celeb who thinks they know dick about politics. Just ANOTHER overpaid pretty boy who jumps on the liberal ticket like all his Hollyweird friends. The man may look the part, and act great, but he's a little bitch. We need someone in this role with balls, who keeps their politics to themselves, who doesn't [frick]ing call James Bond a msyogynist, and who comes across as humble. Is that reasonable?
TheDurkinKnight
TheDurkinKnight - 11/26/2009, 12:49 AM

I mean just look at this shit-talking he's doing about Palin. Okay, I'm not saying that Palin's a great choice for Prez, but to trivialize her accomplishment as governor, when he backed Obama who was NEVER in administrative politics beyond being a jr senator and having the shadiest friends imaginable, blows me away. I'm ashamed that this guy is Irish. I would love to see him banned from calling himself Irish AMerican.

@TheDurkinKnight-He's a great actor despite how you feel about his political views. He kicks ass and he would make a good Captain America if casted.

@Josh- I could definitely see him as US Agent.
Dmon
Dmon - 11/27/2009, 7:51 AM
@Tony If he where to just act that would be one thing but he would put his views in the film and use his big star status to push it. Thats the way Damon is. He has a very cynical view of America. What me and Durkin are saying is we want someone with no political view at all, a centrist or someone who does not push their view on others. Does that not seem fair to everyone. Matt Damon does push his views on others. Plus there are lots of people that could play him and I would rather see a unknown or someone who is not a real big star yet play him. Every comic book movie that has a big star playing the lead role turns to crap.

@TheDurknight-i couldnt have said that better myself my friend. i hope this dooshbag and all his other dooshbag friends are really happy about the whole cap and trade idea and their messiah trampling our civil liberties to dust with the single payer medical insurance disguised as a public option for now scenario. first things first...lets get the house back and in two more years get ROMNEY/PALIN rolling! BOOYAH!!
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 11/28/2009, 3:21 AM
@Dmon- That's a bunch of B.S. Plenty of actors do roles that don't have anything to do with their political stances and they do it well. Matt Damon wouldn't stop in the middle of a Captain America and go on a tirade about how corrupt America's government is... He'd do his job and portray the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America. You're just coming up with excuses on why you think he wouldn't play the role well because you don't like the guy. I'm not saying he's the best guy for the role, I'm saying that IF he were chosen...he'd do a good job.

One thing I agree with you about is that they should go with someone who isn't a superstar. I suggest Garrett Hedlund...eventhough some people on here keep suggesting him for the role of Bucky [despite the fact that he's too tall to play Bucky and is the right height to play Captain America].

gaikinger - 11/29/2009, 12:31 AM
oh....well yeah...he can be cap. he's an actor and i enjoy watching him act. its just that when i hear him spew nonsence from his hermetically sealed vacuum of an existense, i want to tear my head off and throw it at the wall. i was simply making my own commentary on his little political rant that this privilaged little twit gets a platform for.
