STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Trailer Alludes To The Federation's Impending War With The Klingons

CBS has finally released the first official trailer for their upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery, giving us a few surprise reveals and a much better look at the upcoming prequel series. Come take a look!

The first official trailer for Star Trek: Discovery is here, giving us a first look at CBS' upcoming prequel series. There is plenty to enjoy as we are introduced to the variety of different characters played by Sonequa Martin-Green, Rainn Wilson, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, and Michelle Yeoh, amongst others.

Also, it was revealed yesterday that the series' lead character Micheal Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, is the biological daughter of Spock's mother Amanda and that Sarek, Spock's father, is her surrogate father, meaning she is Spock's half-sister. She was also raised on Vulcan. Further details weren't provided, but when pressed on the change in canon, executive producer Alex Kurtzman teased, "We're aware. You'll see where it's going, but we are staying consistent with canon."

star trek has been dead since abrams got his hands on it. if people want to watch this. go crazy but this is not star trek.

I will give this a shot but I haven't been impressed so far by the trailers. The visuals are spectacular but it looks like style over substance. Star Trek should not be an action show. It should be about social commentary and exploration.

I think this will likely be one of the best shows out there. The visual style is cinematic, yet with the storytelling a serial TV show provides. We know there will be 15 episodes, up from the planned 13 I believe.

What Star Trek has really been missing is wonder. For all the talk from trekkies/trekkers about 'exploration' and 'spirit of Star Trek', they seem to really hate new things that explore different ways to present exploration and the spirit of Star Trek.

In this day and age we are spoiled with the Internet. We feel we know it all. So whatever sense of hope and wonder that early Star Treks may have given is all but impossible.

Which is why I like what I am seeing in Star Trek Discovery. There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding the Klingons. Why not? They are an old race. Which we know has a deep history. Put a little mythology in there and we have a bit of Stargate-esque wonder.

But whenever something new for Star Trek comes out the biggest hurdle it has is the stupidest fans in the world, which are Star Trek fans. Who haven't liked Star Trek since Season 4 of Star Trek Voyager.

That is tough for a new Star Trek property since that is what the outside people see. 'Oh, the Trek fans hate it, so it must suck'. And they never give it a go.

TLDR: Mythology and wonder are needed in Star Trek. This seems to bring it. Plus, Star Trek fans kill Star Trek. Learn to accept new things.

First impressions... it looks like a reboot - nothing wrong with that.
Star Trek The Motion Picture made big changes and improvements on TOS, so did ST:TNG and so on, remaining faithful and even adopting "retro canon" to explain things like the Klingon forehead ridges (i.e. ST:Enterprise)

I'll watch it. Been quite a while since we've had *new* Trek on TV.
