Deadline exclusively reveal that Paramount has given the
Star Trek sequel a release date of May 17, 2013. The reason for this sudden decision follows the news that Sony had moved Roland Emmerich's
Singularity from that date to November 1, 2013 freeing up that particular weekend for the highly anticipated follow up from director J.J. Abrams. The site confirm that there is still no official title for the movie and reveal that it will be filmed in 3D. Each cast member will return and the sequel is being co-written by Abrams with Damon Lindelhof, plus Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Back in 2009,
Star Trek was a big hit for the studio after it grossed $258M in North America and $130M internationally at the box office.
