Debuting in 2015's, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, BB-8 has become a fan-favorite character. Now more than five years later, it appears the beloved droid's journey in the new trilogy has come to an end.

As production on Star Wars: Episode IX draws to an end, notable actors in the franchise - including C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels - have been posting emotional goodbyes. The latest comes from Brian Herring, the puppeteer who helped bring BB-8 to life on set.

Herring confirmed on Friday that filming for the currently untitled Star Wars: Episode IX had wrapped for BB-8. Alongside some incredible set photos from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, Herring - who also puppeteered the delicious-looking Porgs - posted a heartfelt goodbye to the cast and crew of Star Wars.

Although BB-8's journey in the new trilogy is coming to an end, it's highly unlikely that this is the last we'll see of the adorable astromech - especially given his popularity and the ability to sell toys for Disney. In any case, Star Wars: Episode IX will at least mark the end of BB-8's known future on the big screen. What comes next for the droid will depend on Disney and Lucasfilm's plans for the franchise, which includes another movie trilogy and multiple projects for the Disney+ streaming service.

You can catch BB-8 on the big screen when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.

I'm not a big Star Wars guy but BB-8 is cool. Good for Brian Herring to live that kind of dream.
