We've known for a while now that the late Carrie Fisher will appear in Star Wars: Episode IX, with director J.J. Abrams confirming plans to use unseen footage of General Leia that was previously shot for The Force Awakens (and The Last Jedi). On the two-year anniversary of her tragic death, her brother, Todd Fisher, appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the legendary actress.

One of the topics brought up was her upcoming appearance in Episode IX, which Todd says will feel completely natural in the film.

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday.

Unfortunately, that's all Todd could say about the highly anticipated movie, adding only that he is thrilled with what has been done to honor his late sister. “We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything,” he said. “But we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”

When Lucasfilm officially confirmed Leia Organa's appearance in Episode IX earlier this year, director J.J. Abrams commented on the possibility of recasting the role or using CG for the character. In revealing plans to use unseen footage shot for Episode VII, Abrams said both he and the studio had no intention of ever recasting the role or using a CG character.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit theaters next year on December 20, 2019. It's a bit odd that we've yet to see any teasers or trailers for the final installment of the new trilogy, but hopefully, we get one soon.
