Confirmed: STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Is Already Filming; Most Of Main Cast "In Place"

Yesterday we reported on a rumor that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars flick may already be shooting in Cairo, Egypt, and now Disney chief Alan Horn has confirmed that filming is indeed already underway, though he doesn't mention the location. Horn also provides a casting update.

While chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney chief Alan Horn confirmed that filming has already begun for Star Wars: Episode VII. "We're actually shooting some of it now" he said. "We're up against it. But also it's the screenplay, because it has to be… You know, this is 'Episode VII', so there's IV, V, VI, and this is VII, so it takes off where VI left off, and where VI left off is 35 years ago.". He also reveals that the script is finally ready after several rewrites. Horn does not mention Cairo as the location, but I'd say it's a safe bet that Jedi News were accurate with their scoop. But what about casting? Other than pretty much every actor under 40 in Hollywood being rumored to have read for a role, aside from Girls actor Adam Driver, we haven't had any solid word or official announcements. But, they may not be very far away as Horn states that “we have a lot of them [in place], we’re just not completely done yet.” Keep an eye on CBM for any further announcements. Personally I feel a press release isn't far away.

Honestly if more movies were this secretive we wouldn't have a site like this, cause the amount of news coming out would he so limited. Anyways, it's still very impressive they're keeping this under wraps well. What story line do y'all think they're going with? I know it's new but will it be sith vs Jedi? I was thinking about it and I can see them doing a captain America the winter soldier type of deal. The Sith are undercover government officials and they strike at one particular moment in time tearing down the republic. Idk, I hope Abrams does a good job and it's original with a likable cast

I think JJ is gonna play the whole secretive bit a little better this time... He admitted his mistakes with "Khan" in ST:ID...

I believe he probably just wants to keep the good stuff hidden! Maybe even announcing the entire cast soon, and while we're busy gushing over the lineup he'll be busy filming the money shots and getting principal actors in & out quick! And if he were smart, that's EXACTLY what he's doing in Cairo now!

Great, Abrams will pull his 'mystery box' crap again like he did with STID. This is one film I will not follow too closely due to Abrams involvement no offense

@MrMartianMarvel I have to disagree. How can you have less lightsabers in a star wars movie? That's madness!

I took grif's comment as exaggeration to make a point (although I REALLY would be happy if there wasn't a single lightsaber in it at all). I'm sure they're going to be in the movie, but the less lightsabers, the better IMO.

Look back at the original trilogy, they don't whip their lightsabers out in every. single. scene. That's exactly what made the few one-on-one lightsaber duels that much more visceral, exciting, and memorable. Jedis are supposed to be more than just lightsaber fights and fancy, ridiculously over-choreographed moves.

Compare that to the prequels, where they don't give any effort to characterize any of the Jedis, and just rely on an overload of lightsaber fights and fancy moves. It was all style over substance.

And unfortunately, "style over substance" sums up JJ Abrams to a 'T'
