One of the most exciting reveals to come out of this year's Star Wars Celebration was the fact that Expanded Universe character Grand Admiral Thrawn is being introduced into the new canon via Star Wars Rebels season three. Now, a new promo has been released which offers up a fresh look at the villain many fans are hoping will at some point make his presence felt in a live-action setting...

Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire.  However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical, and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In Season Three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet — a direct assault on the Empire.

I like how he's got a makeup palette right on his chest in case he needs to touch up. Wouldn't want to lose that blue sheen.

Not gonna lie...but Thrawn on Rebels feels like a waste. Would have been nice to have seen him in Rogue One...

I luv REBELS! Damn I'm jus itching to get my fix come this FALL! I've read some things on Thrawn BUT this will be my first time gettin to know this crazy Imperial bastard. Ezra gunna be a str8 G, didn't know Sabine was getting a bigger role BUT that's great. Honestly I don't think I'm more excited about anything coming this fall than Star Wars Rebels. I luv Agents of SHIELD and The Blacklist BUT they ain't showed me Shit that's got me this stoked!

What a waste... Using Thrawn in Rebels, can't believe people are excited for this. Thrawn, one of the best strategic minds in the former EU will be outsmarted by the Scooby Gang.

Has the discarded Expanded Universe been given its own alternate universe designation yet? Are they sticking with "Legends" for now?

It would be cool if telepathic echoes of that universe made themselves felt in the main canon. Like if Rebels' Thrawn were to have premonitions of the EU stories that will now never come to pass. Or would be that straying too far into the multiverse messiness Marvel loves so much?

I love it. This is a kids show and the trailer for the new season looks like a blockbuster action movie. It really shows how much faith they have in kids.
