It's been a few months with three amazing, jaw-dropping trailers, and yet still barely any sign of Luke Skywalker. Recently the Associated Press caught up with Star Wars: The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams who spoke about Luke's absence from the trailers and post-production of the film while on the red carpet. When asked, "Wheres Luke?" Abrams vaguely stated:
"These are good questions to be asking. I can't wait for you to find out the answer."
J.J. Abrams is clearly trying to avoid going into details when answering questions about Luke, but he did give a straightforward guarantee as to why we barely saw Luke in the trailers. Any fan who has seen the trailer can agree that there is at least a glimpse of Luke throughout the trailers, touching R2-D2 while in possible exile(?) as seen in the image above. But yet that's all we've seen thus far. J.J. Abrams then goes on to answer as to why.
"It's no accident."
He then went on to talk about the post-production aspect of the film and how far along it was, giving insight as to how difficult visual fx work can be in a movie of this scale. Abrams also talked about the lengthy process of visual fx and how they'll keep working on it until they can.
"The visual fx process goes on for so long, that my guess is that we'll probably be doing visual fx for the next three or four weeks, even though the cut will be done before then."
From the sound of that, it appears that there is still some good work left to be done. But the trailers looked so perfect that one could easily assume that the film was completely done with post-production. I guess thats Hollywood magic for you. After speaking about the editing process for a bit, Abrams went on to give much deserved praise to John Williams and his amazing composing talent. He then spoke about how the music for the film's score is coming along.
"We still have another scoring session with John Williams, who's a god when it comes to music."
If you want to see the full interview with Abrams, check out the video below where he talks about the experience of being able to direct one if not the biggest and most beloved film franchises in movie history. It appears that the force is not only stong with this film but with Abrams as well, who hopes to open the newer generations and none fans to the great world of Star Wars!
