There's a lengthy new profile on Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy over at the Los Angeles Times, and she's dropped some very interesting details about what comes next for Star Wars

For starters, she reportedly confirmed that key decisions about the franchise will be made in the coming weeks and that while the "Skywalker Saga" is ending, there are no plans to "abandon the characters" who were created in the latest trilogy (which ends this week with The Rise of Skywalker).

Kennedy noted that Lucasfilm is also planning to move beyond trilogies, which sounds like it could be a smart move for the studio. "I think it gives us a more open-ended view of storytelling and doesn’t lock us into this three-act structure," she said. "We’re not going to have some finite number and fit it into a box. We’re really going to let the story dictate that."

That could mean what we've been hearing about plans for new trilogies has changed. After all, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had to pass on their Star Wars movies because it would have been too time-consuming now they have a deal with Netflix, and if Lucasfilm commits to three films and the first one flops, it will be difficult for them to then recover from that.

Whether this means standalone stories or something different remains to be seen, but Kennedy has previously pointed to some announcements coming in the New Year so we'll see.

What would you like to see next from the Star Wars franchise?

Give the movies a rest and focus on some smaller-scale projects that have a more thought out story and consistent vision like The Mandalorian.

And take your time. This sequel trilogy was rushed and it shows.

@BountyCipher - Finn was pretty good in force awakens. Rey was too.
Last Jedi robbed both of them of their exuberance and character, Rey. She was a lot harder to connect with in last Jedi for me. She was like a characterless video game character on easy mode.

Let me translate that.

'' We don't care about this shit, all we need to do is milk this property dry. We want the money, and we have the people by their balls. This is... the Disney guarantee''.

I rather see movies that don't take place in the century the movies are set in now. Move beyond or dive further back in the timeline. Do something about the hundred year war or the fall of the old republic, we don't have to return to main saga characters again in my opinion
