Kathleen Kennedy Wants To Bring THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waitit To The STAR WARS Universe

Following the success of Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi has become one of Hollywood's hottest commodities. Now, it appears as if he'll have the opportunity to make the leap to Star Wars...

During the press tour for Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi mentioned that he would probably be "fired within a week" of working on a Star Wars movie due to his improvisational style (that's what led to Phil Lord and Chris Miller being given the boot from Solo: A Star Wars Story, after all). However, the filmmaker noted that he would never so no to such an opportunity so could it now become a reality?

During a recent interview to promote the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy informally offered Waititi the chance to one day helm a Star Wars movie.

"I would love for him to direct a Star Wars movie," she said. "I think he has exactly the right sensibility. It was very exciting to see him step into the Marvel universe and do such an amazing job with Thor." Just how well she would respond to Waititi going off script is hard to say but that helped Thor: Ragnarok succeed so perhaps we'll start seeing more unique Star Wars movies in future.

I really felt Hollywood folks took hints from GoTG for some new sci-fi stuff (Star Trek, for example). Ragnarok can be the next big thing.

Of course it doesn't in every franchise.

I would love him to direct something weird like a Yoda spin off. It almost certainly would be a beautiful wreck of a film and would drive Star Wars fanboys nuts.

Give him a stand alone movie to do about 2 bounty hunters trying to track down The Millennium Falcon when Darth Vader puts a bounty on it in The Empire Strikes Back. It could be a buddy team up type of movie with them racing against Boba Fett to get to the Falcon first.

Something like that would suit Taika’s style and a more comedic Star Wars movie may not be such a bad thing with that type of subject matter.

OMG! The infantile dialogue in Thor Ragnarok was insulting. How the hell does it warrant further indulgeance?

Remember when she talked about how great Lord & Miller were and how they were gonna make such an awesome Star Wars movie? Good times.

I trust Kathleen Kennedy to ultimately give us a great movie so sure why not. Ragnarok was great and he can always be fired and replaced.

It would bring some new life to the franchise. Get the Russo's too.

Is it me or does it feel like they’re marketing this movie backwards or something? Like, why would you release a featurette BEFORE you release the first trailer? And I know it’s popular to do teasers for teasers nowadays, but this feels like way too much.
