Mark Hamill Basically Spoils How Luke Will Return In STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

We've known for a while now that Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker will be returning in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and now the legendary actor has pretty much confirmed how.

Speaking to the Associated Press at the premiere for Child's Play, Hamill touched on his involvement in The Rise of Skywalker and how a "peculiar aspect" of the Star Wars mythos allows for his return. For Star Wars enthusiasts, it's probably not hard to figure out how Luke will return in The Rise of Skywalker, but check out the interview below to hear Hamill's thoughts on what will likely be his last time appearing in the Star Wars franchise.

When asked directly if The Rise of Skywalker will be his last Star Wars film, Hamill replied: "I sure hope so."

"I had closure in the last one" Hamill added, referring to Luke's departure in The Last Jedi. "The fact that I'm involved in any capacity is only becuase of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you're a Jedi you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost."

The smirk at the end is particularly interesting because it seemingly suggests that Hamill still isn't 100 percent happy with how this final trilogy has played out.

Hamill has been very outspoken about the trilogy's mishandling of the original characters, and on multiple occasions has pointed out what he believes was a missed opportunity to have Luke, Han, and Leia all on screen together at least once for one final adventure.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will conclude the saga on December 20, 2019.

@inkniron -
Well, you can't kill a ghost.
Hamill is like "My friends are out of this shit show of a franchise, and now so am I!

@WruceBayne - right... so it ends exactly like episode 6? Isn’t that what’s happened? Luke vs Vader/emperor?
I actually think TLJ got it right for the most part by actually doing something with the franchise instead of just towing the line...

@CapnMurphy2021 - Luke was absolutely pointless in that movie. You could’ve taken him out and had the exact same movie.

@WruceBayne - Wha? I completely disagree... which is fine... I saw something different in his role than you... it happens.

@WruceBayne - then why wouldnt rey be there from the beginning? Where is kylos motivation? How could the resistance escape the empire in the cave?

@WruceBayne - um, I think you watched a different movie than everyone else.

It's fine not to have liked the film or how they handled Luke. But to say he was pointless is crazy and just means you weren't paying any attention at all to multiple plot lines.

@dragon316 - so you can take luke out of the movie by changing all the characters and the significants of it? Kylo is a completely different character in your interpretation. And apparently luke sacrificing himself is about as exciting as rey just moving rocks away. Not to mention you cant even find something for rey to even be doing the whole movie if not training with luke.

And to make it clear, i dont care if you hate the movie. But this isnt a subjective element of the movie. Its pretty objective. Luke is an important mentor character that also plays a role in why we even have a story to begin with.

I'll always be disappointed that Luke didn't use his force powers to move a planet, like he did in the Expanded Universe.
