Lucasfilm made the shocking announcement last night that Rian Johnson has been hired to take the helm of a brand new trilogy of Star Wars movies. That means Disney is clearly very happy with his work on The Last Jedi and seeing as this series is expected to revolve around a brand new cast of characters in a different part of the Galaxy, it's clear that the franchise is about to head down a new path.

What that will
be remains to be seen but we know it won't have anything to with the Skywalker family, so it's a story which could really take place in any era and with an entirely different sort of aesthetic.

Regardless, Johnson has now taken to Twitter and shared his thoughts on the news and as you can see, the filmmaker is clearly anxious that fans enjoy The Last Jedi now that they know he'll be writing and directing an entire trilogy! Lucasfilm is no doubt going to want those to be released every other year from 2020/2021 onwards, so he's obviously going to be extremely busy for the foreseeable future...
