Fans of the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga will soon get to relive the film's biggest moments when Marvel's adaptation of The Last Jedi is released in May.

Gary Whitta, who co-wrote Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will write the six-issue comic series that is based on Rian Johnson's film.  Whitta is a Star Wars veteran at this point,
having also written several episodes of the animated series Star Wars: Rebels and contributed to the Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View anthology of short stories.

The comic series will include some new canonical scenes that did not appear in the movie, potentially getting inspiration from the film's deleted scenes. Artists Michael Walsh and Mike Spicer will join Whitta in drawing the series, and Walsh says that some of the series' new content will re-imagine existing scenes from different perspectives.

Former Marvel editor-in-chief Joe
Queseda has drawn a variant cover of Rey back on Jakku for the series' first issue. Check it out below:

The first issue of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be available for purchase on May 2.

Remember when movie adaptions came out when the movie was actually released? This is oddly late.

@AnthonyVonGeek - It's the same timeframe as when the Rogue One and The Force Awakens comics were released. R1 comic was released in April 2017 and TFA comic was released in June 2016.

I understand though, all 3 have been much later than the comic adaptations for the originals and prequels.

Does it come with... something that'd make me want to watch Episode IX?

They should have hired him to write the movie, too.

Maybe Disney should have let Marvel Studios produce The Last Jedi I bet it would have been a better movie.

Maybe, but i felt the comedy in The Last Jedi was one of the weakest parts and took me out the movie.

When the most thinks the best joke it has, worthy of being the first in the movie has is a 'prank call' followed by a 'your mum' joke, you know you are in for a rough time.

@Scarilian - I need you to explain the sentence that started with "When the most thinks the best joke it has.." , but I think maybe I caught your meaning, and if I was correct, I agree.

@Scarilian - The scene that made me cheer in the whole movie was when the Millenium Falcon came in and made the save. That was it when I thought Luke finally came to fight Kylo I got excited but when I found out what was going on it was a letdown.

I've said it before but I can't understand why people buy Star Wars comic adaptations. Why would you pay money to buy a story you've already seen on the big screen. Star Wars works better on the big screen anyway because of the great visuals and sound. Marvel would be better to stick to brand new Star Wars stories like Ghost Prison.

That's a beautiful piece, no wierd proportions or faces, much more natural, I dare say some of Quesada's best work.

Thanks but no thanks. TLJ will be the first „Star Wars“ movie (can I even call it that?!) I will get zero merchandise from. And I have plenty of TPM and AOTC action figures. What I will buy is a TLJ bluray and make a video how I burn it. I will forever piss on Rian Johnson. Hell I‘d even slap him in the face if I would meet him 🤭🤗

@boiling - So you're going to spend money on the film just to destroy it? You do realize Johnson, Lucasfilm, and Disney don't actually care what you do with the disc once you purchase it? They still get the money from the purchase. Sounds like a pretty stupid way to show that you don't like the movie.

Lol. If this movie had an epic lightsaber fight at the end , everyone would be calling it a masterpiece.

Not a fan of TLJ. Unfortunately they simply don't have a plan in Lucasfilms. You come and make your own movie - doesn't matter if you disregard all that was made before. What matters is if you transmit the message we want.
