With Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being a box office hit, and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's upcoming Han Solo film half way through principal photography, it's safe to say that Disney and Lucasfilm have been exploring ways to continue the Star Wars anthology success. Well, it appears as though Lucasfilm might already be in talks with Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail to write the next anthology film.

According to Omega Underground, their sources claim that Lucasfilm has had several meetings with Esmail about potentially penning the script for the next anthology film. The report also mentions that the project Esmail and the studio are meeting about is most likely the rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film.

Esmail has devoted most of his time in writing and directing his critically-acclaimed show Mr. Robot while also working on his upcoming television miniseries adaptation of Fritz Lang's 1927 film, Metropolis, so it's possible he might not even have the time to work on a script for something as big as a Star Wars film. It's best to take this rumor with a grain of salt, but for now, let us know what you think in the comments below.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. The anthology movies will be much better than the sequels. This is great news.

Half the fanbase wants an Obi-Wan film and the other half thinks the anthology films are pointless.

I want an Obi-Wan film, mainly because there is no way in hell he stayed on Tatooine the entire time, and because if Darth Maul found him, then others possibly found him too.

And if Rey is a Kenobi and they reveal that in The Last Jedi, releasing an Obi-Wan film post The Last Jedi could help explain how that happened.

@Kr08 - I'd love this very much. Obi-Wan vs. a returning Darth Maul? That would be so unbelievably epic. Gotta bring back Ewan McGregor and Ray Park for sure though.

Considering Elliot went full Skywalker with his sister in S1, Esmail will fit right in.

Has anyone seen this? It changes the entire tone for The Force Awakens and it gave me chills.

Didn't see this coming. Disney sure isn't slowing down the Star Wars spin-off train.

I want my Boba Fett Space Western dammit! But seriously I here nothing but amazing things about the show and so far Disney has lived up to expectations with Star Wars so in Kathleen Kennedy I trust.

If we really do get Obi-wan as the Anthology Film after Han Solo I want it to be a wasteland mad max esque survival film about Obi taking on Tuscan raiders and the dangers of atropine. If he ever left tattooine after Episode 3 it kinda ruins him imo his whole oath was to protect Luke
