SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Star Alden Ehrenreich Shares Return Hopes And Teases Original Plans For His Han Solo

Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich has again shared his hopes to return for some sort of Solo: A Star Wars Story follow-up, shedding new light on what the plan had been for him before the movie bombed...

Thanks to a wide array of problems behind the scenes, Solo: A Star Wars Story's budget ballooned and a last-minute marketing campaign meant it essentially crashed and burned when it was released in May 2018.

As a result, Disney decided to hit the pause button on its planned "A Star Wars Story" spinoffs, including rumoured movies for characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi (who later received his own Disney+ series) and Yoda.

Every May, Star Wars fans mark the anniversary of Solo: A Star Wars Story's release by taking to Twitter and Instagram to demand that Lucasfilm #MakeSolo2Happen. Thus far, Lucasfilm has done nothing to make a sequel a reality, with even plans for a Donald Glover-led Lando spin-off on Disney+ seemingly falling by the wayside since being announced.

During a recent interview with Gizmodo (via SFFGazette.com) to discuss Cocaine Bear, Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich reiterated his hopes to reprise the role he took over from Harrison Ford.

"If it was the right iteration and the right thing, I would love [to come back]," he says. "Because, for me, in the first movie you watch him become Han. I got to be Han Solo for the last 15 minutes of the movie, maybe. And so being Han Solo is the fun part. And I have no f***ing idea if there is ever a world where any of that happens, and if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, whatever."

"I think the original vibe of all that stuff was almost more like an Indiana Jones idea where you would get to watch this guy be that guy over the course of a few movies," Ehrenreich said of original plans for Han on screen. "Anyway, so that’s appealing about it to me is that character and getting to do that."

As much as we'd love to see the actor get another shot at playing Han, Lucasfilm has started utilising very clever de-ageing technology in recent years, making it more likely Ford would play Han again if he is set to make another appearance. However, if he's completely closed the door on the character (he doesn't love him as much as we do), there's always a chance.

Are you hoping Lucasfilm eventually agrees to #MakeSolo2Happen?

This massive zero wants a job again. What a shock.

This idiot & TV funny man a$$hat Glover playing Harrison Ford & Billy Dee Williams was the worst joke on Star Wars ever.

They sucked. The movie sucked & bombed. NEVER go back.

@DocSpock -

Coincidentally, I decided to watch it again yesterday. It's still...alright. And I still don't get why they didn't cast that other kid who was a near-literal clone of Harrison Ford. I think that would've made the "Han" character more palatable.

Allright & a box office bomb weren't what they were looking for.

To cast young Harrison Ford(super cool) & Billy Dee Williams(super suave) who are 2 of the best actors of their generation, they needed to swing for the fences.

It's like they young casted Charlton Heston & Sidney Poitier with Alfalfa & Buckwheat.

Ron Howard is the most overrated filmmaker of all time... the leads could not even approach the originators.... and the story seemed out of place

@ProfessorWhy - I mean Howard got brought into finish someone else’s film, then being told to make it into something else mid way through that also, I think he did incredible all things considered.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - so he completed somebody else's bad movie? Look at Solo compared to every other Howard work. They are bad to criminally overrated. In my opinion of course. We can all like what we like

@ProfessorWhy - I disagree, he has directed some good movies like Apollo 13, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code. His most recent movies have been subpar at best thought, and he did shit the bed with Solo. But the most overrated filmmaker of all time? I think that's taking it too far.

@MaxPaint - only opinions...... his best works are carried by the cast and script. His worst are represented best by The Heart of the Sea, a whaling comedy

At least it’s refreshing to see this guy actually WANTS to play Solo, I wish Ford had the same attitude.

If (big IF) another Solo happened, and for whatever reason they had to recast a young Han, I'd be more than ok with it.
