SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY: Star Donald Glover Brings the Laughs as Lando Calrissian on Last Night's SNL

Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) shared hosting and musical guest duties on last night's SNL, and he brought some of Lando's charm with him to answer one of the Galaxy's most asked questions. Check it!

A long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian, originally played by the incomparable Billy Dee Williams, was the only prominent Black character to appear in the STAR WARS trilogy. This, of course, changed once the prequels brought Samuel L. Jackson into the fold as Jedi Master Mace Windu, and John Boyega's addition as Finn to the current sequel trilogy has shown an effort in including some representation. But surely there are more than just a handful of Black humans in all the Galaxy, right?

In last night's episode of SNL, Donald Glover not only gave fans a taste of what to expect from his upcoming portrayal of Lando in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, but also a satirical look at the status of Black humans in the STAR WARS universe--and the results are pretty damn funny.

The skit pokes fun at the low number of Black humans in the Galaxy by having Lando attempt to bring them all together for one Galactic Summit. Guests include Saw Gerrera, played by Kenan Thompson, Key Beeba (Leslie Jones), and Endeco (Chris Redd). The bit also ends with Glover showing off his musical side with a lounge song accompanied by Max Rebo of the famed Max Rebo Band.

Check out the bit below!

Donald Glover has to be one of the most talented people working in the entertainment industry right now. There's nothing he does that doesn't work well. Acting, writing, singing, the guy can do it all with ease.

That was funny in that this is awkward kinda way . I’ll still see the movie but this looks like some really bad cos play going on here . I just don’t see any of the leads really embodying Han and Lando but I’ll wait until seeing the movie to decide .

Weak episode. There were a few laughs but overall pretty flat. One of the few bright spots was Glover performing as Gambino, which was better than any musical guest in recent memory.

4.5/10

Some of my favorite Gambino songs, give these a listen if you haven't heard Glover's music. He is really talented and some would say a better rapper than actor/writer. But he's great at all three:
