SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Will Remain #1 This Weekend But Is That Enough To Turn Things Around?

Early box office projections are in for this weekend and while Solo: A Star Wars Story will remain at #1 for the second week in a row, is that going to be enough to turn the spinoff's fortunes around?

Solo: A Star Wars Story may have underperformed at the North American box office last weekend but it was still the best Memorial Day weekend since 2014 as a total of $227.6 million was earned in total by every release being shown. As of right now, analysts believe that the spinoff will remain at #1 with just over $30 million, a 60% drop from its disappointing $84.4 million three day debut last weekend.

Before you slam the divisive movie, though, bear in mind that the likes of X-Men: Days of Future Past and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End suffered a similar drop because Sunday's business was roughly equal to Saturday over the holiday period. Solo could have opened with twice as much but it still would have faced a 55% - 60% decline so this isn't a bad result for Disney...it's also not that great!

Despite that, the fact the movie will be lucky to make it to $250 million in North America by the time all is said and done is definitely a disappointment and Deadpool 2 is still nipping at its heels as that's expected to have a $21 million third weekend. Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, should pass the $2 billion mark any day now and we'll be sure to let you know what that happens! What are you seeing?

This film wasn't THAT bad, between meh-okay. Best part for me was how Han and Chewie met which was really smart and I was surprised at that. But Im looking forward to seeing how Darth Maul plays into this. If the boba fett movie takes place during this time then Maul could play a part in that film and then the last film be in the Kenobi film.

@Nebula - I am not going to nitpick this movie to death, what I may consider SMH moments may not be to others. Like I said the movie was not horrible by any means but it was not great either.

Solo's got the upcoming weekend to make some money at the international BO before it gets eaten alive by Jurassic World 2 in many markets. Not looking good.
