STAR WARS: Remembering When The Expanded Universe Introduced Jinn Skywalker, Anakin And Padmé's Son

The Expanded Universe often delved into previously unexpected parts of the Star Wars Galaxy, but did you know that one story introduced Jinn Skywalker, the imagined son of Anakin and Padmé? Check it out...

When Darth Vader was first introduced in Star Wars: A New Hope, he was simply a terrifying baddie without a backstory. The Empire Strikes Back revealed he was Luke Skywalker's father and Return of the Jedi featured his redemption, but Anakin Skywalker's past wasn't properly fleshed out until George Lucas' prequels.

Since then, TV shows like The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Obi-Wan Kenobi have elaborated on Anakin's life both before and after becoming a Sith Lord, though it was down to the Expanded Universe to do that before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and started over.

Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Lost Command was a five-issue comic book miniseries released by Dark Horse Comics and written by Haden Blackman. The first issue arrived in stores on January 26, 2011, and the last on May 25, 2011, though we're guessing it's a tale many of you aren't familiar with.

As a result, you probably don't know that it introduced Jinn Skywalker, the imagined son of Anakin and Padmé Amidala.

During the story, Vader had a vision of what his life might have been like had he never fallen to the dark side and it's then we learn he and Padmé had a son called Jinn, named after The Phantom Menace's Qui-Gon Jinn.

Anakin would have become a Jedi Master, with Padmé Amidala-Skywalker Chancellor of the Galactic Senate. At this time, Vader didn't know he had twins, Luke and Leia, and it's fascinating to see how he pictured his life with his wife playing out.

Why do we bring this up now? Well, today's episode of Ahsoka is expected to take us back to Rebels' World Between Worlds, potentially introducing the idea of a Star Wars Multiverse where we'll reportedly see Ahsoka Tano confront Anakin on Mustafar in place of Obi-Wan (among various other scenarios from alternate histories).

While we're not suggesting we'll see Jinn make an appearance, now is a fun time to revisit this story and we'd highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already! For now, you can see some excerpts from the series below (via SFFGazette.com).

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.

The first three episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.

Correction. Clone wars and rebels gave us a better idea of his life both before and after becoming a sith lord. Obi wan kenobi can only function as a noncanonical story. I dare say some episodes don't even make sense in the Canon of the show itself.

So if Anakin hadn't turned the twins probably would've been called Jinn and Shmi instead of Luke and Leia.

A news story about a 2011 comic? That reeks of desperation.

I really wanna see some What If types stories for Star Wars that do stuff like "what if Anakin did side with Mace instead of Palpatine".

Each movie has a major moment that had major ramifications for the course of the galaxy, and seeing what could've happened would be real interesting imo.
