STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI: Did Adam Driver Just Drop A Massive Spoiler About Rey's Parentage?

The mystery surrounding Rey has been driving us crazy for the past two years but Adam Driver may have finally shed some light on what's to come in this new interview about Star Wars: The Last Jedi...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now six weeks or so away from hitting theaters and Disney and Lucasfilm are doing everything they can to keep a tight lid on what's to come in this highly anticipated release. However, Adam Driver - who plays Kylo Ren - may have now dropped a major spoiler for the movie.

The mystery surrounding Rey's parentage has been a huge talking point since the release of The Force Awakens but Driver's remarks about the character may shed some light on where she comes from.

"I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned’, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level. You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices."

Did Driver just confirm that Rey is actually a princess? It certainly sounds that way and that could mean she's the daughter of Leia and is Kylo's sister. There are, of course, other royal families in the Star Wars Universe so her origins may also lie elsewhere. Either way, these comments are definitely intriguing.

It's widely believed that we'll get answers about who Rey's parents are in The Last Jedi and that Snoke's identity will be revealed in Episode IX. What do you guys think? Share your theories in the usual place.

Maybe a the grandchild of satine. Atleast thats what I hope for. A child of leia is not likely, because why should she be a princess of a blown up planet?

@MalseMarcel - I doubt that. They won't make something like that have ties to a character from an animated series that has never been mentioned before in a movie.

It wouldn't be accessible to people that don't watch the animated series. Which is LOT of people.

@MalseMarcel - grand child of Satine and Obi Wan has been my guess from the moment I saw that force vision. What a beautiful way to the things up. Grand son of Vader vs. Grand daughter of Obi Wan.

@Fogs - pretty much this. Princess is likely more of a description than a title in this sense.

Thought maybe she was a daughter of Luke, who hooked up with kenobis secret daughter, so she'd be a skywalker, related to Leia so she'd be like a princess, and a Kenobi.

I feel they took from fanfic if what I'm hearing about a force tree is right...

Me criticizing TFA would just be a tirade of my own insecurities

It bugs me because they had the EU and it looks like they just read a bunch of reddits

The daughter of a Princess isn't a Princess herself de facto, that's not how it works, even in the Star Wars universe. To be a Princess, the daughter of a Princess who never became Queen would have to ask for it when she becomes an adult (which Rey will obviously never do), and be named as such by the actual Queen (like Breha recognized Leia after adopting her). And I'm pretty sure Alderaan doesn't have a Queen to do that anymore. Or trees. Or air. Not that it matters regarding what Adam Driver is saying, it's obviously a moot point.

If Rey is Leia's daughter, they will have some serious explaining to do regarding hers and Han's attitude towards her when they met, and a Hell of an explanation regarding why they would have been separated. It would have to have happened when she was a baby, because anything after that and they would have recognized her. If she's been taken or even presumed dead, then Leia doesn't behave like she ever had a daughter or Rey could be hers (she's Force sensitive, Leia just learned Rey is also Force sensitive in a world where Luke is supposed to be the last, she should wonder if Rey's her daughter, lost or supposedly dead).

Finally, when they decided what wouldn't be canon anymore, in the novels starting with the New Jedi Order (which was some of the best shit ever written in the Star Wars universe) Leia and Han had 3 kids, Anakin, Jacen and Jaina. Anakin died, early in the Vong war, and Jacen (who Kylo has been modeled after) became a Sith Lord, killing Luke's wife (if Rey is Luke's daughter, what happened to her mother?), before being killed by his own sister, Jaina (who Rey is also modeled after).

Let's be honest here, they didn't decide dozens of novels wouldn't be canon anymore just because, they did it to take inspiration in what was already done and rehash it. They won't reinvent the wheel, they'll take stories and characters and ideas already written in the novels and use them again. That is why Rey and Kylo are entirely based on Jacen and Jaina.

In any case, whoever Rey's parents are, she's either a Skywalker or a Solo. Let's hope the explanation isn't complete bull.

I feel like he may just be talking about Leia, a princess hiding her identity by being a General and having everyone just refer to her as that and not princess.

Shes Han and Leia's daughter. The immediate chemistry that she and Han had in TFA was pretty obvious and Leia may have had a vision or counsel to separate Rey and Kylo because putting them together could create an unbalanced force.

@BlackHulk - So when both kids were babies, Leia and Han would have decided to separate them, thinking one of them was going to turn evil? That keeping both siblings together would create an imbalance? Quite the opposite, I would think. So they would have kept Ben and abandoned Rey? And who would have told them to do that, Luke? Give up one of your kids, preferably the girl, and send her to a desert so she can became a scavenger and be happy? Imagine that discussion lol

Plus It doesn't explain why Leia or Han had zero questioning regarding if she could be theirs. If they had given up on a baby girl, and just met a girl who's Force sensitive, they would ask themselves if it could be her immediately. Only thing that could remotely make sense would be if she died in an accident (supposedly), which could explain why she was stranded on Jakku. Somehow.

I see her being Luke's daughter a lot more. Since we know nothing of Luke's wife (if he had one), she could have had her without him knowing. Maybe Kylo even killed her, which would explain why he's so utterly defeated.
