Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed that Rey was being trained by Leia Organa, and when the young hero later caught up with Luke Skywalker's Force Ghost, he presented her with his sister's old lightsaber. That was wielded by her son Ben Solo in the final battle against Emperor Palpatine, and later buried on Tatooine by Rey.

While the blade's introduction was somewhat out of the blue, it was a cool design, and concept artist/prop designer Matthew Savage has now shared a closer look at it. He also explains what inspired its unique appearance.

"I was fortunate to be one of the many people involved in the design of Leia's Lightsaber for Rise of Skywalker. The design begin as a prototype prop make and bounced between myself and the prop makers until being finalised. The emitter area was inspired by a Walter Von Nessen, Art Deco Lamp that JJ had taken a shine to."

Yes, Leia's lightsaber was based on an Art Deco Lamp that director J.J. Abrams liked, but it was a cool look for the weapon, and one it was definitely easy to imagine the General using.

My main problem with TROS was how quickly the conflict was resolved at the end. Sidius was the main villain of a saga that spanned decades and got taken out in like 30 seconds

How do we know he just didn’t pull the same trick again and transferred his consciousness to another clone somewhere in the galaxy?

Will we ever stop talking about this piece of shit.

@marvel72 -

I'm still hoping that, in a few years, we finally hear everything there is to know about what went wrong with the production of this movie and how Star Wars fans all over the world ended up with this garbage.

At least, we know it all began to go wrong when Kathleen Kennedy decided to fire Colin Treverrow, whose script was still a hundred time better than what we ended up having on screen.

@Amuro - I believe even Mark Hamil approved in the direction of his character from that script.

I think it would've been better if they buried all 3 sabers. Anakin's, Luke's and Leia's. It's kinda weird that they just buried the father and the daughter's.

Also, Hayden should've been in the final shot (controversial I know). Would've been more impactful seeing the Skywalker family together again

Should of buried this film on Tatooine.

They still never answered where Luke's green saber is.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - They did, just not onscreen.

It was stored by the caretakers on Ach-To. Or whatever that island was called.

You know that scene where he grabs her necklace and then works out her location.
If he can pull a necklace to where he is, couldn't he have just grabbed Rey and pulled her to where he was.

I enjoy little and unique differences that enrich the feel of a character or environment.

This design, to me anyway, harkens back to the sophistication of where Leia was raised. A civilized approach to a deadly weapon. It’s something that looks like she would have designed it. Well done.
