Nicolas Wright and James A. Woods are said to be in "final negotiations" to write the first of a trilogy of Stargate films, accordingn to The Hollywood Reporter. Roland Emmerich is expected to direct it. He previously directed the 1994 film that kicked off the franchise. Dean Devlin will produce. He originally co-wrote the 1994 film.

Writer and Woods recently worked on Devlin and Emmerich's Independence Day 2, and clearly left a good enough impression to be hired to work on their next project.

Hollywood is all about remakes these days. No originality whatsoever.

I love this movie. I watched the whole series. I'd rather have a sequel than a reboot.

I loved Stargate. I tolerated the TV spinoff (only because McGyver was headlining and who doesn't love them some McG amirite?).

I cannot get behind a reboot of this beloved movie and franchise already established. It's like pissing all over the Mona Lisa.

Not cool.

Love the original Stargate. It's gonna be sad to see it remade but I'm sure I'll see it anyway... I suppose this is how a lot of people felt about the Abrams Star Trek films and Moore's BSG series too, both of which I love, so I'll give it a shot.

I do think a sequel would be more interesting than a reboot for Stargate, but nonetheless it was implied in the original that the gate would be closed on the other side permanently. Then again that could've not worked out for unforeseen reasons.

Also for every remake there is still some original content, and I got to tell ya I'd prefer a well done reboot or remake over a less than quality sequel or an original film that sucks.

Biggest example at the moment is Jupiter Ascending, it aims to be the start of an original franchise and based on the current reviews it's a convoluted mess and everyone knows how Sucker Punch turned out. Most Original material however is mostly indie anyway, big budget ones are just as hit and miss.

I personally would prefer another tv series. Richard Dean Anderson was great on Stargate and I know he wouldn't come back, but to me he's the real Jack O'Neill. Plus Stargate just in my opinion works better as a tv series instead. I just hope the new Stargate won't become like the new Star Trek films. Stargate is about exploration and not big battles. Yeah I know there was wars and fighting in the series, but the base of the show was more finding out, what's out there. Instead of let's go kill the aliens on the other planets.

Sequel to hard for writers to come up with? Why do they have to throw out everything and start over with every franchise? Just leave it alone, for crying out loud.

Why!!!?!?!?! Why do you feel the need to reboot Stargate?!?!?!?! Just continue on with the series.... Make some movies if you want but keep the stories and characters in tact! This erases all of SG-1 Atlantis Universe everything! No Ronnon Dex no Shepard Mckay NOBODY! DAMN IT.

If memory serves, from what I have read, it's going to be a sequel not a reboot. But that could have changed...
