Steven Spielberg to Direct Robopocalypse

Steven Spielberg to Direct Robopocalypse

Mike Fleming at Deadline.com has an exclusive report that Steven Spielberg will be directing the movie version of the Daniel H. Wilson novel (to be published in 2011) about an apocalyptic robot uprising. The script will be written by Drew Goddard.

"Robopocalypse embodies an imaginative story of a robot rebellion unleashed against the human race," said Mark Sourian, who's announcing the project with his Reliance co-prexy Holly Bario. "This is a project we immediately sparked to and with Steven directing it we knew it was in the best possible hands to bring it to worldwide audiences."

Says Deadline, "It puts Spielberg back into the large scale terrain that is important in his relationship with Reliance, because it is the kind of movie that can succeed on a global tent pole scale. Spielberg has two pictures he directed that are in post-production, Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn will be distributed in the U.S. on December 28, 2011 with War Horse following 5 days later. This might seem like a lot of action for one director, but remember, this is Steven Spielberg, and he has multi-tasked successfully before. Like when he shot Jurassic Park and then moved directly into Schindler's List. He turned out a summer blockbuster, followed later in 1993 by the film that won the Academy Award for Best Picture."

Doubleday will publish the novel in June 2011

Wow, Hollywood is getting more original by the second!!! Apocalyptic Robots!!! That's UNHEARD of!!! ...oh wait.

But that title doesn't have enough syllables ending with "O". They should really go with "Robopobolopolis" or... i dunno, "O Robot".

A.I. would have been a lot better in Kubricks hands. Sad that he died before he finished the movie.

So many people hear make me laugh when it comes to movie comments. "Spielburg is kinda washed up", yeah, accept the majority of his movies own. A.I. was a good, even emotional, movie. "Another apocolyptic robot movie" well, sure, why not? Does it really matter how often they do them? Each time it's a new vision and a little something different in there. I happen to enjoy such movies. Look at Skyline. Another ID4 movie. Alien invasion, omgftw! Been done! But it looks freakin awesome. Working on a bachelors in computer animation so I look forward to working on movies like these. I say keep them coming, just make them good.
