Area 52 a four-issue comic book series is the next to get a movie treatment by Summit Entertainment, according to Deadline. It will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, both producers of the Transformers movies, with JC Spink as the executive producer through Benderspink.

Here is a little description of the comic:

The comic was published in 2001 by Image Comics and had story which centers on a top secret warehouse with the name of Area 52 in Antarctica where lots of otherworldly discoveries are stored. The place has a ragtag group of misfits who have been exiled in the middle of nowhere to staff it. Then an alien killing machine is accidentally hatched in the lab, the group will have to use the stored mythological weapons and artifacts while working together to save themselves and our world.

The studio will start looking to bring on screenwriters to adapt the comic into a script very soon. And there is no date to start of the production yet.

wow much hating on it, just because is from the same studio that has done Twilight? sometimes is not a studio that makes a movie to be horrible, but the creator of the book from where the movies where adapted itself.
This adaptation will have the same producers of the transformers movies, if they bring somebody good enough to write the script, then I will look forward to this!

I personally loved the comic, especially because of Clayton Henry's art, but i hope it never gets made. Half the shit that happens in the book would just be lame on screen and the rest is pretty much The Thing which has already been remade. TWICE.

The same studio that made Transformers also made The Godfather
Just trying to be humorous T_T

Wow, how many goddamn movies titled "Area 51" are in development? There's the "found-footage" style horror thriller from Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity), there's the video game adaptation, and there's this.
