Jennifer Lawrence and co. will have reason to celebrate, as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has now taken a whopping $423.6 million at the domestic box office; passing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest to make it the 10th highest grossing movie ever. The Hunger Games made $408 million back in 2012, so this marks the first and only time that the first two installments of a franchise have both grossed over $400 million. In addition to its domestic haul, Catching Fire has grossed an estimated $439.4 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $863 million. Can Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 outperform their predecessors?

Pretty solid series so far, surprised how well they adapted this from the book. Jennifer Lawrence being so easy on the eye and actually being able to deliver a performance also helps. Makes a change from all those same-old action comedies Hollywood regresses every movie it possibly can into for mass audiences.

Lightning arrow.
Your argument is irrelevant.

Domestic boxoffice means nothing, some movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the rings just make 300 in USA and 700 overseas.
Worldwide is the only that matter.

I'm just saying my opinion about domestic boxoffice, not about the movie.

Yeh probably the best 'blockbuster' movie of last year... good for Francis Lawrence, always liked his films.

Still haven't seen it. First one was good. But not great. I read the books, they were gory and beautiful, and perfect social commentary. Hopefully Catching Fire makes up for Hunger Games' flaws.

The films are cool because they stay somewhat close to the source material.

I still prefer the first. Gary Ross captured the essence of it more and Jen was a bit annoying in this one too along with the verge of overreacting. The BEST scene was the District 11 scene hands down, they nailed it.

Good movie. Well deserved. Its good because it stayed very close to the source material. Other studios need to take notes.

How come book adaptations stay close to the source material with no problem? What's the problem with these cbms?

" to make it the 10th highest grossing movie ever."

I hope you mean domestically. World wide this isn't even in the top 25. Looks like a slow "news" day.

A book: Stand alone story

A comicbook: 50 years+ of continuity

No, the fans make it seem overrated but it isn't. I'm not a big fan of the first film and really care less.. but coming from someone who studies film Catching Fire was great, So i don't want to hear haters saying shit..

Just being true.. the film was great.

The first was totally chick-driven...not sure if the books are similarly geared, but I assume so. So basically, I have much better things to watch. Ya know, like movies that don't cater to teenage females. Not that there's anything wrong w that,

It underperformed overseas big time, barely beat Thor. Frozen passed it up overall. Successful yes, but with a twist.

The first movie was ONE BIG LIE!!! Since I saw it, I've been whistling out my front door, and the only thing I ever get back from the Mocking Jays in my neighborhood is- "F#*k you, Commander!"

@JediPhilosopher Catching Fire was an even better movie than The Hunger Games. So I dont know how you can say that.

Both are excellent adaptation of the books which is very rare. Look at Harry Potter movies which are crap compared to the books.

The Hunger Games series is an excellent dystopian future sci-fi film series.

Catching Fire was easily in my top 5 movies of 2013. I did like Desolation of Smaug and Thor 2 a little better though.

I think people who think they are for teen girls or utter them in the same breath as Twilight either:
A - Never read the books or saw the movie
B - Saw the movie with pre-conceived notions and were to subborn to let go of them and admit they were wrong
