Lionsgate announced the release date for “The Hunger Games” will be on March 23 next year... It will be the first novel in the [Suzanne Collins] trilogy to be on the big screen.
If you're unfamiliar with the series, the basic premise is that, in a time when the USA has collapsed due to drought, fire, war, etc, a place called Panem has taken its place. The new country is made up of the Capitol and 12 districts - and each year, two representatives from each district are chosen at random to participate in
The Hunger Games. The games are basically televised entertainment broadcast throughout Panem which progresses as the 24 participants must gradually eliminate each other.
Directed by Gary Ross, and with casting announcements expected soon, The Hunger Games is out March 23rd next year!
