Universal Cancels Plans To Release OBLIVION Early In IMAX
Previously scheduled to be released in IMAX a week ahead of general theaters, Universal has decided to have the Tom Cruise-starrer sci-fi epic Oblivion be released in both formats on April 19th.
Last summer, Universal announced plans to release director Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi epic Oblivion starring Tom Cruise, in IMAX April 12th, a week before it arrives in general theaters. Now, however, Deadline reports that the studio has changed these plans and will release the film in both formats on April 19th. The reason behind this is to maximize its opening during a weekend which only sees the Ashton Kutcher-starrer jOBS as wide competition. Additionally, it allows Jurassic Park 3D to have an extra week in IMAX theaters, and Cruise will be able to promote Oblivion internationally longer than before as the movie releases in several territories on April 12th. Oblivion stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. The film is set to hit theaters April 19th
