An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Inception), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Cosmopolis), and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck., The Bourne Legacy) and Bryan Cranston (Argo, TV's Breaking Bad).

I don't see why everyone is complaining about basically the same thing, the lack of Godzilla or the buildup till the end. This is how the first original movie was structured. It is with the later movies where you get 50% monsters fighting, so naturally I'm expecting that for sequel.

@Nomis If only his inner fanboy helped him when scoring the Winter Soldier.

But all the reviews sound generally positive, so this is good news. Hopefully the same comes with DOFP.

@SpideyQuad

Times change and what entertained people in the past needs to be changed for a modern audience - especially considering the acting quality in action movies fluctuates wildly nowadays.

Hence why we got the 'Of The Dead' series that gave us fast zombies - because they started realising that slow zombies were less interesting. People go to a Godzilla film hoping to see a lot of the creature - because the trailer teases the hell out of the character.

If its a good movie then the absence of Godzilla can be made to work, but it still isn't what a majority of those watching want to see in terms of the movie. Same situation with Transformers and Superhero films - people want to see action of some kind and the lack of action needs good character development in order to get the audience to continue watching.

@Nomis No he didn't give it a bad review, but he reasons for not giving it a better grade were ridiculous.

"but the reasons for not giving it a better grade were ridiculous."

Just like every reason I've read from anyone for giving Amazing Spider-man 2 a low score.

ZING!

@Gamera623 I gave it a 4/5 stars, I personally loved the movie. Sometimes I kind of think the bashing for these new Spiderman movies come from the fact that this is a reboot series.

If ASM2 was made in 2002 instead of 2014, it would've received all sorts of praise IMO.

You're never going to please everyone with a film like this. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like it develops slowly to a big payoff at the end. If it was Godzilla fighting throughout people would complain it was too much Godzilla, too much destruction, no plot development, no character development or little is more etc.

I like the reviews I read, even the ones which are more negative as many of the negative stuff they say I can live with and actually agree with concept of teasing for a big finish.

Looking for forward to Friday!

Completely agree about TASM2 as well, many reactions are from the Raimi clan with rose tinted glasses.

I just seen Godzilla yesterday, and it's true that the fight scene in the is only in the last 20 minutes and it is epic. The build up to it makes the fight scene at the end more important and very personal. I believe the plot and development in this movie surpasses PR. The movie brings the emotion and personality of Godzilla which was sorely lack in the 90s version and what I loved about the originals.
