WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES Deleted Scene Reveals The Fate Of Jason Clarke's Malcolm

As Matt Reeves' critically-acclaimed War for the Planet of the Apes prepares to hit Blu-ray tomorrow, 20th Century Fox has released a new deleted scene that reveals the fate of Jason Clarke's character.

After playing a prominent role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, it was a little surprising that this past summer's War for the Planet of the Apes chose to make no mention of Caesar's (Andy Serkis) human friend Malcolm (Jason Clarke), but as it turns out, that wasn't always the plan.

Thanks to a new deleted scene, courtesy of Collider, we finally know what became of Malcolm and (presumably) his family after the events of Dawn and unfortunately, it sounds like their journey ended quite tragically after an unexpected run-in with the Colonel (Woody Harrelson).

Watch the new deleted scene below:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

War For The Planet Of The Apes features:
Director: Matt Reeves
Andy Serkis as Caesar
Woody Harrelson as The Colonel
Steve Zahn as Bad Ape
Karin Konoval as Maurice
Terry Notary as Rocket
Ty Olsson as Red
Michael Adamthwaite as Luca
Toby Kebbell as Koba
Judy Greer as Cornelia
Sara Canning as Lake
Max Lloyd-Jones as Blue Eyes
Devyn Dalton as Cornelius
Aleks Paunovic as Winter
Alessandro Juliani as Spear
Amiah Miller as Nova
Gabriel Chavarria as Preacher

To be fair, this movie could have done with a bit more bleakness.

@Forthas -He's a great actor, no doubt but let's not downplay the visual effects team who brought his performance to life and at times even amplified it. It's not as simple as just 'Digital Make-up'...the process is much more than that. I wish Serkis and the filmmaking team of the franchise acknowledged that.

I prefer the open ended nature of Malcolm's fate that we got in Dawn. A little bit of hope isn't a bad thing.

Well that f*cking sucks for Malcolm . . . That would have been a cool element or layer to throw in there. I'm cool with it not in the movie but cool layer.

Both BR 2049 and this movie deserved more at the BO, can't blame anyone though, this year was packed.

I thought Reeves said in an interview that Malcolm was killed with a run-in with the colonel, but nice to see that an actual scene is also shot for this

That should have been in the final cut.
Just adds another layer to the Colonel and his vicious persona.

I just watched this again this weekend. Such a powerful film. This scene, I'm glad was left out. it didnt add anything to the movie. I like that Malcolm's fate was left open ended.

I've been a fan of Jason Clarke since Chicago Code. I would love to see him in the MCU one day.
