While not much is known about the SHAZAM flick, including who will play the titual superhero and his young alter ego Billy Batson, we now have solid plans for when principle photography will begin.

The aptly titled WhatsFilming website gives curious minds dates, locations, and other details for movies scheduled to begin filming in certain cities. A quick look at the Toronto section of the site tells us that SHAZAM will have an initial production run from February 5th to May 4th, 2018.

Also notable is the film's working title, Franklin. While some working titles are often unrelated to the context of the film itself, fans have already begun using the wisdom of Solomon to speculate what exactly it could mean. One prevailing theory is that it's a nod to Benjamin Franklin, widely known for his discovery of electricity through an experiment involving lightning. SHAZAM fans should recognize lightning as a staple of the character, both in his costume and in his transformation from Billy Batson to the legendary hero.

There is no word yet on who will star as the Big Red Cheese, but Dwayne Johnson is confirmed to be playing the villain Black Adam in his own solo feature.

If you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the filming process, you know how to find it!

SHAZAM is scheduled for release April 5th, 2019. It will be directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by Henry Gayden.

Author's Edit: I originally wrote that Dwayne Johnson would be appearing as Black Adam in this movie because I am a dummy and forgot that plans had changed for the character. My mistake!

@knocturnalzen10 -

Originally they were going to have Black Adam as the villain.

Then they gave up on Shazam due to scheduling issues and his somewhat similar power set to Superman - so they scheduled a Black Adam solo movie to occur before Shazam.

Now it appears they have scrapped or delayed the solo movie until after Shazam... which makes no sense as they would develop the villain after the movie in which the villain is the main threat.

It'd be like giving a solo movie to Zod that tells his story on Krypton, but giving us it after Man Of Steel where he dies.

@Scarilian - I guess the only difference between Zod and Adam... is Adam has a much more extensive/interesting history in the DC universe than I'd say Zod does (IMO)... so it could possibly work

@Scarilian - To me it sounds like The Rock wanted to make sure it was a viable franchise before he commits. If it bombs, I can't see him sticking with it regardless of all these years of fancasting and waiting.

@knocturnalzen10 - idk but no Rock Adam and no ticket for me. Disappointing choice WB. I'll be there to say I told you so when this bombs.

I just do not see much reason in developing Black Adam after the movie in which he may die. Unless they plan on turning him into an hero of some kind.

Shazam was going to occur on its own first, with no Black Adam movie.

Shazam got delayed so they decided to do a Black Adam movie which would serve as a set-up for Shazam.

Shazam has now been moved back meaning the Black Adam movie will release after.

In essence Black Adam will be a prequel or set-up story to Shazam similar to how Wonder Woman was a prequel to BvS.

Except Black Adam is a villain in the DCEU and currently every super powered villain has been killed. I doubt he'll survive Shazam - so it could be a case where the Black Adam movie is developing him in a prequel that tells the story before he dies.

He might not die, but i cannot see Shazam just allowing him to exist and i cannot see Black Adam returning to the franchise either.

@Scarilian - That's... Pretty assumptive. I didn't think there was confirmation that the Rock was even in this Shazam movie.

All of what i stated was officially announced at varying points by Warner Bros.

The original plan for Shazam was to have him fight Black Adam.

Then as mentioned, Shazam got delayed, so it may no longer be the case. The entire reason for the Shazam prequel was a mixture of time wasting and ensuring that the Rock would stay on.
