SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Rumored To Take Inspiration From This JMS/John Romita Jr. Story Arc

Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to be a Spider-Verse story on the surface, but a new rumor indicates that Marvel Studios has actually turned to a very different arc for the threequel's inspiration!

With rumors swirling about Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring cameos from actors like Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Willem Dafoe, it's no wonder fans are convinced the film is some sort of Spider-Verse adaptation.

However, it seems Kevin Feige might once again be looking at J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man run for inspiration (after previously taking the idea of Aunt May learning her nephew is Spider-Man). According to Reddit user Pomojema_SWNN - who has proved to be a reliable source of information on the site on multiple occasions - "Happy Birthday" is what we should actually be looking at for clues.

That story played out across three issues, including Amazing Spider-Man #500. It saw Peter Parker teaming with Doctor Strange to protect New York City, only to find himself reliving his past after stepping into a portal alongside the Sorcerer Supreme. Placed in his younger self's body, the web-slinger had to fight his old foes all over again, and even caught a glimpse of a possible future.

The MCU Spidey doesn't have that much history (his battles with Vulture, Thanos, and Mysterio are still pretty fresh in our minds), so perhaps he'll be sent on a trip through the Multiverse, finding himself in the shoes of other Spider-Men?

"Happy Birthday" is reportedly only being used as inspiration for the film, so we don't know how much of it will factor into what we see on screen. However, we'd love to see those final few pages of Amazing Spider-Man #500 adapted, as a gift from Strange gives Peter the chance to say goodbye to his Uncle Ben.

@WakandanQueen - Hoping we can get a bit more of a "The Conversation" vibe this time around? Last time the reveal was followed by IW and endgame which technically spanned 5 years so I guess it's sort of justifiable that there wasn't a big focus on it in FFH, but now that they've hit the breaks a little bit then, maybe?

@AbidNaga - I feel like IW and EG happening in between HC and FFH had in general some negative effects on FFH. That film didn't really give Aunt May anything, which I hope is not the case this time around, since her part in HC was very well done.

@WakandanQueen - Definitely. And if it is really doing something with JMS's Happy Birthday, or just putting Peter in a really bad place (I guess as implied by the title), then there's plenty of room for him to turn to Aunt May so we could get some good moments.

I remember reading about a deleted scene from HC with May where when Peter was coming back from doing Spider-man stuff, he spots May helping a little girl out and both he and May just meet at their apartment without Peter mentioning the good he saw May doing, I thought that was a really cool moment that we sadly didn't get to see, but it shows that they know what to do with May, they just unfortunately haven't fully done it yet.

@MyCoolYoung - I'm hoping that when I'm going to the cinema for Shang-Chi, I'm getting trailers for this and Eternals

@bkmeijer - I hope we get something before Shang Chi but that’s just the impatient in me as well as me knowing how Sony does with trailers.

@MyCoolYoung - Charlie is gonna play a blind lawyer with red glasses, but he’s not Matt Murdock. His real name Ben Dover

@MyCoolYoung - This movies the one I'm both most excited for (the identity, daredevil, etc.. stuff) and most worried for (spider-verse, larger than life stuff) aaaahh. Hoping for the best but if the stuff that I'm excited for remains the main focus then I'm in regardless haha

@MyCoolYoung - honestly I'm in a state where I view the cox cameo as shrodingers daredevil. That until we get the confirmation of both if he's in it and if it's the same version of the character that the Netflix shows are both Canon and not Canon with the mcu at the same time. And I'm not sure I can take the news it's just a cameo and all those dreams are dashed aside.

@DaHyro - my sources tell me it’ll be maroon glasses and the name Harry Cox
Origame

@DaHyro - and Mike Colter will play a muscular guy with a yellow shirt, jeans, and a hoodie with bullet holes in it. His name is p.i. staker.

@AbidNaga - yeah I hope it’s not world breaking events. They have to reign it in some after endgame then far from home.

@Origame - honestly, I’d take a cameo if that meant he is Matt Murdock and daredevil which would mean he can pop up In other places. We keep getting these multiverse fake outs it’d just be good to get confirmation that some of these people are actually real
